Sandy Report (2-21-04)
Wow, what a day!! The weather was so nice today. I even had to take the coat off. Well, enough of the chit-chat.....
I saw some great fishing today. I saw at least five fish over 15 lbs. I am sure one went 18-20lbs. A lot of people had their limits. I ended up 3 for 3 with the first released. It was a small fish (about 4lbs) and I knew I would do better. About an hour passed and nothing. I hooked another fish and it was 4lbs as well. At this time I needed to take one fish home at least. "BOONK" Fish dead. I fished a bit more and took a break and cleaned my fish. After my break I got back to the water. Ten minutes later I hooked into a great fish. It leaped out of the water a few times. It was awesome. Then it happend. It headed for the fast water below me. There was a log that had fallen accross the river from that winter storm we had. The fish went right under it :depressed: . I was thinking it was gone..........With the water just breaking over my chest wadders I pushed the G.loomis under the water and the tip popped up from the other side of the log. I grabbed the pole and jumped over the log and headed down stream. I did it. I landed that fish and was so happy (if know one was looking I would have danced just like that) . He ended up 34x18.5. I looked at a fish weight calculator and it said it should be about 14.5. I think he was more though. I couldn't even get my hand around his tail. Well that was my day. Ordering a new digi. camera so there will be pics for my next posts. I seemed to have missplaced my old camera. Just a good excuse to upgrade  .

Re: Sandy Report (2-21-04)
Strange, I fished the Sandy today and no one was hooking up. I was on the river by 6:30 and left to a different part of the river by 11:00 because it was so slow. We changed spots, I hooked and landed a small nate but that was it. You must have been in a good hole. Sounds like a good day for you.

Re: Sandy Report (2-21-04)
Floated from Oxbow to L&W today (sat)... but didn't exactly see anything close to what yarndog2003 is saying... there was probably a fish for every 3rd boat or so. Did see one guy w/ 2 fish on the bank in the park and another caught across the river. We picked one up on egg's/corki around the bend below stark st. bridge... beautiful day - but windy.

Re: Sandy Report (2-21-04)
Drifted from oxbow to dabney. Water is clearling up from earlier this week. My eyes saw the same as WetaLine. Maybe 1 fish for every 3 boats. When i dropped off the trailer at dabney counted a dozen boat trailers and then when i went back to launch counted 15 more. At least Grant (shuttle service) is keeping busy. I think the sandy needs to be renamed 1-5

Re: Sandy Report (2-21-04)
Ya i'd be willing to with draw "probably" and exchange it with "maybe"... see post above to understand.
traildragger - water looked pretty good... there was a bit of color to it... but very fishable.

Re: Sandy Report (2-21-04)
I was at the Hatchery parking lot. I think that every one that crossed the river to the other side got one at least. There were a few people that got skunked but some got two. "And I don't do drugs Gottafish". Kind of crappy that you think I am giving an dishonest report. So it is going to cost me $300 for a camera so you don't think I am dishonest????

Re: Sandy Report (2-21-04)
You don't need no stinkn' camera Yarndog, I'll take your word for it.
One thing I've learned from fishing the Sandy is that some times those fish will keg up in different areas not just for days, but weeks some times. You could be slaying them down low and the guys fishing Ceder Creek are not touchn' a fish.
The last couple of years especially I have noticed that the fish, Steelhead, Coho and Springers, are screamin' through the lower river and hanging in the holes above Dodge Park more and more
Again, thanks for the report!

Re: Sandy Report (2-21-04)
yarndog - i was thinking you might have been the guy we saw w/ two in the park.. we went through there by 7:30 and he already had his two - but you were a long ways up stream if you were at cedar creek. Makes sense that you saw fish up there - it sounded like some had moved through earlier in the week.

Re: Sandy Report (2-21-04)
I got on the bank at 6:40 am. I could see seven other people two across river and five on my side. I had a six pound hatchery hen on the bank at 6:55. Guy above me put a hatchery fish on the bank at 7:10. both guys on the other side hooked up and were playing fish at the same time, about 7:20. One of those (looked like a big fish) broke off and the other was released, native I'm guessing since it was bright. I hooked landed and released a native buck about 10 lbs at 7:50. Guy across the river landed a fish he kept about 8:15. Guy below me hooked and lost a fish about 8:20. A few guys came and a few left but generally saw counted about eight fisherpersons at any one time. I left happily with my little hen at 10:00am. This all ocurred in Oxbow. Those who know me, know where I fish...

Re: Sandy Report (2-21-04)
Ill gaurantee that fish are keged up in certain parts of the river, I cant stand it when people just cant take other peoples word for it. I have never posted a picture on Ifish, does that mean that I have never caught a fish the brooders are in and know it first hand after yesterday.

Re: Sandy Report (2-21-04)
Hey GOTTAFISH...
What's your deal
I know Chris and know he would never give out false information...
Just because "YOUR" not in the opinion that Chris is telling the truth and that he is doing artificial stimulants tells me that I don't think your opinion is one that I want nor care to ever ask for...
Like I said earlier Chris...Great report & I know I can hang my hat on any report you put out...Picture or no picture...
Can sombody tell me something Why can't people be happy for other individuals when they catch fish

Re: Sandy Report (2-21-04)
Well, all I can say is I am glad I pushed those fish to the other spots on the river. I am sure the fish keg up where I am not. Goood going everyone .
PS - I have to say that I believe the pressure from boats was about double the pressure from the bankies (at least on Saturday) - the sun really brought out that aluminum hatch!
Oh - I missed one on flies (well, maybe more than one, but only one that I knew off ).

Re: Sandy Report (2-21-04)
I fished the Clack a couple weeks back and we hit all the secret pocket water all the way through the drift. Where were the fish? All in one hole along with 3 other boats. Kegged up.
So, yarndog, which hole was it?
