a story huh. o.k. ran after tuna a week ago friday, made it 12 miles out and threw a rod out the side of the block (volvo 130) and had to be towed back. the rest of the boats that ran found fish at 32 miles. high boat was 33 for 750 pounds. got a new motor a couple of days ago so i'm going to run out to 45 fathoms and see if i can't find a salmon or 20 in the a.m.. the summer has been fairly good for me. most of the chinook have been found between 40-50 fathoms straight off the rock. i've made 10 tuna trips and the best day was 47. most of them were caught around 27 miles off cape lookout. can't think of anything else to report. i'll report back tomorrow when i get in.

Greg, bummer about the rod. At least you on your way out and weren't 40 or 50 miles offshore, would have been a real long ride in.

Post a report on your trip tomorrow if you would, curious about the conditions this weekend. I just looked at NOAA site, Stonewall Bank data isn't current (back to 3 pm), maybe the 20+ kt winds took it down.

Good luck tomorrow, be safe.

Hi Greg, Welcome to Ifish. Sounds like a rough trip, but I'm glad that you made it back in safely and secure.

Good luck this morning on the Salmon. Will be curious to hear a report.

A new Salty Dog. Welcome aboard. I too have done the rod through the block thing. 18 miles out of Newport. Glad your back up and running.

My first salt water boat had a 130 volvo B20. Very good little engines and easy to work on.

Greg, what kind of dory are you fishing? Name?

I just bought my first dory a couple months ago and am still trying to get things figured out. Maybe you could give me some pointers?

thanks all for the welcome.

corrirod: i have a 22' pacific city dory built in 1977. the top is gray, the splash rails are white and the rest of the boat is blue. i think i saw you in p.c. one day this summer, how do you like the beach thing? feel free to ask me anything. i've fished out of here since i was old enough to be put on a boat. my dad started fishing in the late 60's and quit in the early 90's. as soon as i get a digital camera i'll try and post a pic of it. i almost forgot, the name is Infinity. i used to have the name on the back but had the boat re-gelcoated and never got around to putting it back on.

bfn, greg

no nookers today. fished between 40-50 fathoms this morning and only had a couple of coho on. 2 dories fished just outside the mouth and reported only a few coho. where did they go? i heard some boats were getting them on the pile a few days ago, anyone know? doesn't sound like the weather is going to cooperate for us little boats for the next few days new motor ran excellent.

bye for now

Greg, WELCOME!! You are no longer a lurker!

I fished salmon this weekend, too. What a crappy ocean! I was also wondering
where the fish were at. We found a few in closer (25 -35 fathoms) but I only
scored 6 on Saturday and two yesterday ... although one of them dressed
out at 28 lbs.

Bought back two of the smaller fish from Saturday. Sent one fish back up to
Astoria with Justin and Karen
(and my new grand-son ... what a cutie). Theresa and I had salmon for dinner
last night. Used the "Emeralds Lime Seasoning for Fish" on it and it was *yummy*.

Welcome to Ifish (even though you have been lurking for a long time). Post early
and post often!!

Welcome aboard. I got a lot of respect for you launch from the beach guys. I've been wanting to try it but fear that I'll like it too much...
I got to fix the dory I already have before contemplating another one...

Welcome to the circus infinity31. This is a pretty fast crowd but a good one. It is good to hear from PC dorymen, another fast crowd and pretty tight to themselves. Like Mr. Fisherman said you have to admire the guys who launch off the beach. Talk about adrenaline.

Tight lines and hey teach us something or tell us another story. We really like stories  .

I'm glad to hear I wasn't the only boat to struggle Saturday. Went to the rockpile for some halibut but between the wind waves and the swell we had a hard time staying in contact with the bottom. Did catch some throw-back lings and a couple of yelloweye. Moved in closer hoping for a nook, but the wind just kept picking up.

Did get a really nice nate coho for my buddy from Baker City and got to explain a little about releasing them without a touch. Love to have 'em splash water in my face when we unplug 'em. He was still grinning when I sent him home this morning, although he did mumble something about it being a long drive to the fishing hole.

Welcome to the Salties, by the way.

Skein
