After reading and dreaming of going Albie chasing I finally got my chance. I have a 20' Grady and am nervous about going 25 miles out on my first trip, so I went with a great charter skipper to learn a few things and check out first hand how it is done. Went across a flat CR bar about 6:00 am last Friday on my first Albie adventure with nothing but high hopes and calm seas. Arrived at the 22 mile point and through out the lines and the poles. Feathers and purple and silver cedars along with a milar thing. Trolled for 30-40 minutes and Not a bite. OK Capt Ron says pick'em up and lets move so away we go headin due west. The water looks like Lake Oswego at 6 in the morning. Not a ripple on the water and no wind with a little fog. Beautiful. We pass a couple sunfish, lotsa of Albatross and low and behold a bunch of jumpers appear on the port side

. We stop and throw our gear out and
the anticipation of the bite is running off the charts. We circle a couple of times and nothing. I mean nothing, not a miss, not a hook up, nara, nothing  . So Capt Ron says bring'em in and lets throw bait, so away we go. Finally hook up # 1, opphs, unhooked : and still an empty box. Away we go again in hot pursuit and finally success, first on the cedar plug and then on the hand line. We go a little further and nothing. Dead, stinko. It has now been 2 1/2 hours since out last Tuna and it is almost noon and the skipper is talking about heading back and going for salmon  With the Tuna not biting but very visible (jumpers/feeders on the surface)and the crew a little antsi, the discussion was on. Stay or go, Stay or go, what is a group of guys to do??

Well, low and behold, a little breeze comes up and puts a riffle on the water. The glassy water is gone and ut oh, FISH ON

. For the next 2 hours it is constant action, snubber, cedar plug, couple on bait, double, fish on fish off. Wow the action is hot  Capt Ron says it is time to go home when we hit our 27th Tuna of the trip. OK the time is running short, but we do hit our last fish and we head home with a very happy crew

and some sore arms.
Can't wait for my second chance at Albie and keep the stories coming.
On another note, I don't know if I will take my boat out that far but will keep it in the realm of possibility for next season.
