Default Any reports out of Pacific City?

I haven't heard much out of PC lately. My family has a home there and I 'try' to get over there as much as possible. Just wondering how the dory fellas are doing and if they're picking up any Nooks on the outside.

We also bought an old Harvey Dory a while back and are in the process of getting it ready for next year. I need to do a little trailer work but otherwise it is just about ready to go! There just isn't anything like going out in a dory....

No chinook have shown up yet. I'm going to try trolling outside the mouth of the nestucca this weekend, ocean permitting. Bottom fishing has been good and a few guys got tuna at 22 miles last Friday.

Is PC a beach launch only deal?

D-fisher,

What kind of boat do you have? We just picked up a '72 Harvey with a 60 hp Merc. It had never been launched, or used, in PC - go figure. I need to get a marine radio for it, upgrade the df and add a gps. Also needs trailer 'adjustments' for beach landing. That should get us started, but as in all things concerning boats, you need to know when to say when.

I had a great time fishing with a friend in his Harvey last month for coho - fishing, and catching, was absolutely terrific. Can't wait till next summer!

I own a 1965 Pacific City boatworks dory, with a 1994 Johnson 60hp. I was lucky enough to find it in a associates garage 8 years ago, where it had sat for 12 years. Until she found her way to me, she had never been off the beach either.

A tilt mechanism for you trailer is a must. Most guys run on CB channel 5. Hope to see you out there next year. What's your boat named? Mine is Gray's Legacy.

Sounds like you had a great find/catch with your boat! I bet that there are probably a few old dories parked in garages or barns around Pacific City that haven't been out in years. Just a guess.

My trailer is new and doesn't have a tilt - yet. It will be added sometime this winter. Her name (new name) will either be 'Let-R-Buck' or 'Buckaroo'. It's a Pendleton thing....

We'll see you out there!

Where does a person find a dory for sale? I purchased a vacation home at PC two years back, almost every house has a dory in the yard or in the garage, or drive way, yet I never see them for sale in the paper. I've been wanting to get something that I can use in the river or out in the ocean, and a dory looks like a great option. And after reading a post thread two weeks back about going over the nestucca bar, doesn't sound like something a person wants to do in an ordinary sled, so launching from the beach seems the best way to go.

The dory guys are a tight group. You really don't find dories for sale like you mentioned. Most of the time when someone is selling theirs, generally word of mouth is the best form of advertising. Get to know one of the locals and that will be probably your best bet. Or, talk with James Allen, the fiberglass guy in town and he may know of someone wanting to sell a boat. good luck

I plan on building one this winter. I'm a career carpenter(20 years). If the construction of this boat goes well, I may go into the custom dory building business on the side. Just 2 or 3 a year to start. You'll be able to see an example of my workmanship next summer.
