Well what now???? the count down begins for opening day next year
Now that pretty much all hunting for big game is over with for the year the count down begins until the snows melt and the animals start moving back to there summer ranges and the scouting begins for another year. i cant wait to hang some cams this coming summer in some areas we found last season over east and find me a honey hole for roosevelts in the coast range. i gotta buy a rifle for my daughter next year will be her first year hunting so that im excited about gotta get her sighted in.
This season was a fun one, got to share some time in the woods with good friends and had the bulls going but could never close the deal. As far as the late deer season i saw 5 bucks, 1 big ole boy so where i hunted that was a pretty good year, also had a shot at a 3 point the 2nd day of late season so cant say i didnt have a chance at a buck. Next summer i plan to scout more then i ever have which i am looking forward too, my family loves to camp so i plan on taking them with me on a few of my trips. I guess now to fill the gap between next season ill have to hit the rivers and do some salmon and steelhead fishing. Thanks for all the great stories and pics people have posted this season i enjoy them all, well what do we all talk about now????? lol

No kidding, my countdown started October 8th which was when I finalized my big game season with a buck.... I can't wait for next September 8th, plus the fact that we're planning an Idaho bowhunting elk trip as well!

No countdown is necessary. Time to start cougar hunting. Time to plan the cat camp 2009 ASAP. Snow is here. Just need some more moderate temps now. No sense in braving the coldest arctic front in years.

I actually enjoy the scouting more than the actual hunting. Stand hunting can be brutal at times. I was relieved to get some venison early on in the late season so it's been fun since and lot's more to come, but I agree, a little milder temps would be nice.

We still have two bear tags, two fall turkey tags, bobcat and a youth rifle elk tag that begins next weekend.
I did stumble across a sweet deer hunting spot today and I was already planning for next year as I hiked through the area.

I am already getting ready for next year. I found a place to get a bunch of broadheads for a good price. Got the arrows from this season. Now to go out and practice alot. Only 6 months to go.

Re: Well what now???? the count down begins for opening day next year
I'm really looking forward to this upcoming season. My daughter will turn 12 this year. we have to get her Hunter safety card and then putting her in for a couple hunts.. i'm not sure who's more excited her or me... She really wants to go hunting with a bow but she's not quite strong enough to pull back 40lbs yet.
My family has been bugging me to take them camping when i go scoutting so that should be fun. We'll be doing alot of fishing, camping and elk scouting to make it through to Archery elk season. I can't wait to take my new bow out. Oh and i can't wait tell xmas to see what new hunting supplies the fat man brings me.

Re: Well what now???? the count down begins for opening day next year
Let's see???
Trailcamming from now until next fall...
Me and a couple guys here are going to go kill a lion (maybe 2) from a winter range here in the next month or so...
Shed antler hunting starts in about 5-6 weeks...
Boss Gobblers need to be photographed and smacked down when the land begins to awaken...
What else????

Finally! I've been waiting weeks for someone else to bring that up. Time to start planning and logistics. But yes, hunting is just getting good for dogs and cats with the snow we thankfully just received. Just need a little motivation and a warm jacket.

I hear ya. I was out tromping around on a piece of state land looking for some quail the other day, and the place was loaded with Muleys, including two nice bucks that I saw. And I found a shed. I already starting thinking of places to sit, and good spots for deer drives.
Duck hunt through the end of January.
Coyotes February-March.
Shed Hunt April-May.
Scout the summer.
The year is too short.
Mitch
