Default Fishing Newport?

I have never fished in Newport before. My Dad and I this year just bought a boat, and so we have been running around everywhere trying to fish places we have never been. (old bank maggots)lol. So I am wondering if anybody could give me some info on fishing for chinook in Newport. I would appreciate it. Thank You.

Right now, either the rivers, or out on the Rockpile for Chinook if you want the ocean are your best bets. Look for the area on a chart known as Stonewall Banks. That's the rockpile. You need to be a little selective as to when you can get out safely due to ocean and weather conditions. It's about 12 miles offshore from the jaws in Newport.

Welcome aboad, jajones. This is a great crew and we have a pretty good record for watching out for each other (nice on the big blue) and helping each other find fish.

What kind of boat did you get? Tell us about it.

We got a 2003 alumaweld stryker 17' with a 75 hp merc and a 9.9 merc kicker. We have taken it over the bar in Garibaldi, and Astoria. On good days. And have had good luck, lots to learn though after spending 20 years on the bank. My recently new uncle inlaw took me out in his boat springer fishing last spring, first time ever fishing out of a boat. We had some real good days, so my Dad and I decided it was time to hang up the waders and get a boat. Best decision we could have made. Dunno what I am going to do with all the fish. I think the neighbors are getting sick of me give fish to them.(nah they are just jealous) But already need a bigger boat, that damned salt water got to me. Anyways thanks for the advice guys I appreciate it.

welcome aboard, i run a 17ft also, you just have to pick the good days to fish the big pond. never be afraid to leave early, and always watch the weather. the fish will be moving in closer soon.. spoiled daddy might be able to help you out.. he's a good guy., been out on the pile with him before. kb
