Default Shipping Live Crab to China

There is article in on Katu website regarding :
Oregon to ship Live Crabs to China . 9.07/03
I guess the Crab Prices are going to be heading skyward. They said it is a delacacy in China. The commercial guy's will get their price. This makes me wonder. Tom

It makes me wonder if we are going to deplete the fishery .I bought 3 crabs from a fish store a couple weks ago and it cost $21.00. I wonder how much 3 will cost if the Crab starts to be being shipped live to China. just kinda got me thinkin. Tom

This was done as a "goodwill" gesture towards trade with China.

I'm not sure if you know this or not, but commercial crabing in
Oregon is "Limited entry". With the limited entry
program there will not be
more boats fishing for crab, so I don't think that the crabs will be over-fished.
This *will* be good for the fishermen, however, because thier reciepts will
go up and maybe they will make a little better living??? Besides, it helps
with the trade inbalance with China?

Better prices for the commercial crabbers would be great. The more money in the coastal economy the better. I just wish they would change the season so they didn't have to go out in such bad weather :depressed: . Better prices might mean more people are willing to take bigger risks.

From what I heard on the radio, this has nothing to do with sending Oregon crab to China. It was done to show off the fact that it is only an 11hr flight from PDX to China, and to promote goodwill. I believe that they get a crab out of the sea of japan that is close to a dungeness...
