Default Newport Crab

Made the annual trip over to Newport to visit the in-laws and try some Dungeness crabbing. We crabbed most of Saturday, and the first half of Sunday. Both days were slow, but Sunday was a little better, most likely because there was not as much competition with other pots. Saturday we bagged 19, and Sunday we bagged 23. We started out with 3 rings and two pots, but after having a rope get tangled , and having the ring drift away, we were down to four total.

Out of curiosity, what is everybodies favorite type of "trap"? Personally I like the traps because you drop and forget, but they take a while for the crab to get in. Second, is a type of ring I got from GI-Joes. This modified ring is fixed both top and bottom, with the top ring being smaller diameter than the bottom ring, and the bottom is just net. It works great because when you pull it, it just billows out like a big drag net, and the crab cannot get out.
