Miss B Haven, how many how many?!!!
Mel, I just wanted to thank you again for the trips you have offered and all that you and your boat had to endure to become the Cherry Poppin' King Daddy, Yea Baby!
For those who may not know, this Saturday Mel sacrificed 3.5 Tuna virgins when we returned to port with 21 or was it 22 Tuna?
I know that I sure had a great time bringing in the long fins on both Handlines and stand up rod multiple times. I just love those multiples baby! YEA!
We caught fish on feathers, skirts and Cedar Plugs. It seemed that Blue and White was the hot color followed by rainbow.
It was a difficult undertaking to sacrifice this hardy pack o' TV's as it required two trips and the boat will have to have repairs made.
So, back to my question, How Many....
How many Tuna virgins were sacrificed on Miss B Haven this season.
Post up here with your thanks and be counted.
Thanks again Mel... You are the greatest and certainly held in high regard as a long fin assassin outside the Astoria River system.
Keta, I wholeheartedly believe that your technique for bleeding, gill and gutting and icing Tuna is the best possible. Thank you for the tutorial and for all your help.
As for the rest of the crew, it was great to let the blood flow with you guys. I hope to fish with you again soon.
Come on now, lets see the count....

Confirmed cherry poppage here.
Cheers to Mel, the Miss B and a great crew!
Can't thank you enough for the opportunity.
My addiction condition will undoubtedly worsen from this point forward.
Fish on...

Re: Miss B Haven, how many how many?!!!
JCB, can you post pics and/or email them to me? That would be great.
And by the way, this would be a great place and time to post up your fondest memories of the trip etc.
On our trip we saw what we believe to have been a Thresher shark come completely out of the water. It was thought to be 6 to 7 feet long. We also had a jumping Tuna chase and catch one of our hand lines. That doesn't happen every day.
Oh and when we finally got Mel to reel in a fish I hooked another one for a DOUBLE! It was great.
How about it?
Lets hear all about it and maybe even see some pics...

Re: Miss B Haven, how many how many?!!!
Captain Mel is da Man! I have to smile every time I think about our trip. (and that's a lot). Great memories.
NOTE: The chord that is attached to Mel is the latest in hi-tech. The other end is connected to the helm and simultaneously allows him to monitor radar, sonar, gps, plus he can make strange sounds on the vhf... while moving about freely on Miss B.

I too have been deflowered on the Miss B Haven. It was a great trip with an awesome skipper. Once is not enough. Just like sex the more you get the more you want. (well thats the way I remember it)
Thanks, Mel

C&E
My sunburn has long since healed. I took 28 lbs of fresh tuna filets and had it professionaly smoked and vacuum sealed. Man Oh Man is it good. I've had smoked tuna salad sandwiches the last 3 meals and am thinking about another. I was a guy that didn't care much for store bought canned tuna, but this sure is different. Captain Mel for President!

Re: Miss B Haven, how many how many?!!!
You're killing me here Larry. Smoked tuna is awesome. I'm gonna try my hand at canning some up with the salmon fuss dies down a bit. Course that may be awhile for sure.
So Larry with your experience aboard Mel's boat do ya think your new ride will be ready for a few TUNA runs next year? I know mine will. I just need a bigger TUNA expense account at ENGLANDS MARINE.
Glad you are enjoying the fish.

Re: Miss B Haven, how many how many?!!!
You betcha I'm planning on making a tuna run next year. I'm going to be real picky about which day or days I do it though. One tuna trip with Capt. Mel supplied me with enough tuna to last my family through next year. I figure I can afford to be patient and wait for the few most perfect days. If I buy a few tuna lures every time I go to Englunds, by next summer I should have enough gear to start. Many details yet to be worked out, but I'm sure looking forward to it.

Hey Larry, how's the sunburn doing? Mel is a great guy but I really think he needs more tuna gear.
Hummmm....that gadget looks like a garden hose to me.

Re: Miss B Haven, how many how many?!!!
Some of us with no mileage (read - pure as the driven snow) didnt let any of you players get your handlines on us
As I recall it, 3 Tuna Virgins met up and decided to go it alone, in a threesome , and feel our way thru our first tuna trip. It might not have been pretty, we surely didnt know what we were doing when Ed got us in the back seat of his boat, but we rolled up our sleeves and did what seemed natural. We had looked at the pics in the magazines, read about how to do it. Peer pressure made us want to be like the cool kids who have done it, but we hadnt found a participating partner who was willing to go all the way with us.
A few of the conversations as the day went along were as follows:
“Should we rig the handlines like this, or this?..... There was a post on ifish that said to do it like this....., ya but so and so said to do it like this...., Lets do it like this.... How in the heck do you tie a perfect loop?..... I wonder where 61 is, it seems to be a pretty good spot by listening to the other salty dogs on the radio, This is BOE on 78, any of you Salty dogs want to give us a GPS number on where to fish.... BOE on 78, anybody there?..... Heck lets just start here.... Hey what is that on the water skipping along behind the boat?...... Looks like some black sea weed????....., I will clean the sea weed off after I get these other lines out..., hey thats not seaweed, thats a tuna..., YeeeeeHaaaaa quick pull it in....,, (While holding it over the side of the boat dangling in mid air) What do we do with it?.... I don’t know?...... Well we gotta do something with it,..... any ideas?...... Ooooops it just fell off...... Should those bungies be stretched that far?....... I don’t know?...... Why do these 2 handlines have relaxed bungies and those 2 look so stretched out, its been that way for a mile now?..... Hey we are dragging doubles..... Quick pull them in and lets put them in the boat this time..... This is BOE on 78 again, anybody want to tell me how to bleed a tuna, over?.... BOE on 78 again, we stuck the screwdriver in his head, nearly cut his head off, and he is still flopping, is this normal, over?.... BOE on 78 again, we have completely removed his head, filleted the fish to the bone on both sides and the fish is still bleeding and flopping around is this normal, over? BOE on 78,. AGAIN, (5 minutes later) DO TUNA DIE? This fish is still flopping around, spitting blood all over Eds new boat how do you kill them, over?..... BOE on 78, again, would you Salty dogs quit pulling our leg and tell us how to kill a tuna, we got 23 of them on the boat and they don’t ever seem to quit bleeding or quivering, over..... Ummmm, were gonna need a bigger boat...... Lets call it a day there is no ice or room left........ Skein good buddy, pal, friend, buddy, pal..... whatcha doing here at the boat ramp? got a sharp knife and wanna help cark some tuna?....... Don’t worry we have an extra knife........ A day I will never forget. My first time in the back of boat with a Tuna.

B.O.E., that was hilarious. You really captured the first trip reactions of surprise that you actually caught a tuna, the shock of continuing to catch more while the others are bleeding all over you and the boat, the confusion of what to do with them and the satisfaction of a successful venture into the big blue to catch and process a new fish.

Roy, that is good stuff bro. I am still cracking up.
Speaking of cracks at least Mel kept his drawers hitched up otherwise it could have been real ugly real fast. Don't know if anyone knows this but Mel has little cherrie stickers on the wall of berth. They glow in the dark at night too. He's got so many of them that he counts them each night like sheep to help him sleep. Night, night Mel-b.....

ROFL,L,L!
I'm pretty sure I had a similar conversation a long time ago in the front seat of my '47 Chev.
Think about it. How many of you were de-flowered by someone you met through the internet. Does your momma know about this?
At least I requested a knife to protect myself before I joined up with you guys.
Folks, you shudda seen it. There was tuna tails sticking out of every bucket in that boat. I thought it was some kind of radar ship until I got downwind.

BOE, that was great. I've heard many of those lines in the back of my boat.
Thanks again to you, edsr, and NorRivDave for calling us in and introducing me to ifish back in early July.
Were you there last Saturday with edsr and Dave? I don't recall running into you at the carking station. Anxious to do it again soon, let me know if you need a ride sometime.

Oh my gosh
That was hilarious
My wife is sitting here looking at me like I am an idiot but I can't stop laughing at that post BOE. It sure made my having to go in for my first day of work tomorrow not seem so darn bad. It is great to hear that there are people out there still having a ball chasing them silver bullets and making a great big mess in someone's boat other than Nancy's.

At least I don't run around my boat with a giant hose stuck in unmentionable places.
That looks like it'd be at least rather uncomfortable, Mel.
