opinion on seaswirl striper?
I've been looking for something a little better fit for fishing big blue than my 18' sled. I've seen a few stripers out there and found one that seems like a good deal, maybe too good. Do they have a low resale? How do the compare to a Trophy? Any reply is appreciated.

Re: opinion on seaswirl striper?
The Seaswirl is a much higher quality boat than the Bayliner. I would not own a Bayliner anything, let alone a Trophy. If you found a good deal on a Striper but think it is too good to be true, I would take it to a boat shop and have it surveyed.
Happy fishing, YK

Re: opinion on seaswirl striper?
I liked my Seaswirl hull but the OMC outdrive sent me to the poor house.
Go with an outboard IMHO and as listed above, pay for the survey. It is worth it just for the peace of mind.
Good luck with your quest. Make sure you have a rig to pull it with, don't ask me how I know this .

Re: opinion on seaswirl striper?
I own a 1997 26' Striper with the volvo penta I/O, 350 CI and dual prop. This is my first season with it and so far I am very satisfied. It shears pretty bad when I'm on step and hit a boat wake wrong but handles good otherwise. Good Luck

Re: opinion on seaswirl striper?
Don’t know what striper your looking at but I’ve had two 21’ both with the 4.3 liter. It is one amazing little engine. I’ve owned 4 Seaswirls and never had a problem with anything other than the wiring in the trim switch which was easily fixed. My only problem was I felt a little cramped in the fishing area with more than two poles out. I would absolutely NEVER buy a used boat without a survey regardless of the year. It’s the best money you will ever spend. There can be problems such as dry rot that even the seller may not be aware of. The resale value is better than many and as far as Striper and Trophy…. there is no comparison. Good luck.

Re: opinion on seaswirl striper?
I've got a 90 21' Seaswirl Sable (pre-Striper)... nice ocean hull. 4.3l is economical but has slow hole shot. Having a competent mechanic for the omc drives is a must. Heavy, well made boat for it's size.
Suggest you follow the prior advice and get the survey... as some years (pre'90) had wood stringers which could be problem in the future.

Re: opinion on seaswirl striper?
No doubt... they're good boats. I almost bought one a couple of weeks ago, but the hardtop was a bit too low for standing up.

Re: opinion on seaswirl striper?
I own a 20' stryker made by seaswirl and this has brought me to ifish. I grew up fishing on the charters and the rivers and the lakes. Now I fish the ocean. I would never talk bad about my boat its a karma thing, however I too am looking for a new boat. Having fished Osprey in Alaska this is what I would like, no trophy, seaswirl striper only if the fiberglass is thick and the bulkhead is secure and the strakes are straight.

4 Reel, I was looking at the boat in Philomath, but by the time I called, that one was sold also.

Re: opinion on seaswirl striper?
How about a Boston Whaler. Maybe a used one. I've got two and they are super boats. My 23 is best for tina fishing but a smaller one for inshore would suit you well. The resale is always good on them as well. Mark

Re: opinion on seaswirl striper?
There is a 26' Striper for sale at Chinook Marine Repair in Chinook, WA.
I believe it is a 2000 model with the Volvo Duoprop.

Re: opinion on seaswirl striper?
glenwood12, Good morning! Hey i have a good friend who has a Striper for sale. It's a 2001 or 2001 Model 26fter, with HT V8 Volvo pkg, with electronics and a kicker very well set up and it's a dandy. I think it has less than 80 hrs I guess and like new. His number is 541.688.8665. His name is Ed. Give him a call. He's a great fella. He want's something a bit bigger, as he's owned a 40 Tolly Sedan before and wants to chase offshore for bugeyes. Best of luck shopping. Oh! I also have a friend that has a 23 Bayliner with enclosed cabin V8 Volvo pkg and some electronics with few hours and he wants a smaller boat. It's a 2001 I believe. Nice rig. His name is Bob @ 541.896.9483.Have fun!

Re: opinion on seaswirl striper?
I have seen one Striper and two Trophys sink at the Chicken Ranch over the last 3 years. Transom separation. Just food for thought. I personally wouldn't take one of thoses more than a few feet off shore. There is also one sunk just north of Depoe Bay, it makes a great artifical reef, fish love it. I shoot a Ling Cod off it once every couple of years.

Re: opinion on seaswirl striper?
Ouch!! I was a little worried about the quality, that's why I asked. I've also been researching the ARIMA line. I like the boston whaler also, but I don't know if I can spend that much.
THanks for all the info.

Re: opinion on seaswirl striper?
Search around on google.com. If you think Seaswirl is garbage, there will be a bunch of people to back you up, if you think Bayliner is garbage, you will find the same. Arima, Whaler, on and on and on. There will also be thousands of folks who love their boats and wouldn't have anything else.
Think an 80K SeaSport is the quality way to go - there is one of these at the bottom of the ranch also (they may have towed it in - any body remember?)
You will have no problem finding one or more of each brand at the bottom of the sea. Maybe the CG has stats on sinkings and their cause that could then be compared against the number of boats on the water for a given brand. I would rather see the data (just the facts!) than hearing that somebody's brother's wife's cousin said they are garbage because his neighbor sunk one of them in '67.

Re: opinion on seaswirl striper?
As long as you're still shopping, no reason to target something specific ... include a lot of boats in your consideration. There are many worthy of consideration from ProLine to GradyWhite to Whaler ... Lots to consider in the price to value to performance algorhythm!

Re: opinion on seaswirl striper?
 I don't mean to muscle in or change the subject but since the conversation has drifted a little from Seaswirl I wonder if you folks would share your opinions on a couple of other brands such as Glasply and Skipjack?
