Default Depoe Tuna Today 9/6/03

Haven't heard or seen much yet.

Saw and met Choo Choo over at the ifish carking station. They ended up with two long fin type specimens. Believe they said Mark (Fish Asassin) and Gregotis had a couple two or three a piece the last time they had heard anything from them. Sounded like the Enterprise was further out and catching.

Choo Choo said the catching was a bit slow where they were and NOAA was right this time and it was time to high-tail-it for home. (ooh, just had a couple pretty good gust just now at 2:30PM).

Marty bagged it this morning after going out about 20 miles or so. Came back in about 5 miles and it was much improved so he turned around and went back out only to find conditions the same or worse.

The Sampson got into a couple tuna out at the "Tug" (approx. 13 or 14 miles NW of here) while fishing big ling's but moved in on the beach with the wind to finish up.

Two Dockside boats limited out on chinook again.

Will probably post a pic of Lars tuna grouper trip a bit later as he is scheduled in about 3:00PM.

That's all for now.

Dan

Just got back from the ifish carking station a while ago and chatted with El Shadai, Gregotis98, and Seasquid.

El Shadai was the "hot rod" today and ended up with somwhere around a couple dozen fish, Gregotis 10 tuna and Seasquid 9 tuna's. Fish Asassin was not back to port yet and neither was NortRivDave.

Immediately out front it still looks good and flat but sounds like coming in from about 20 miles to 10 miles it was a tad bit sloppy.

Unless things changed it sounds as if the charters were scratching today.

Well, final count for the day.

If I remember correctly the EdSr/NorthRivDave got 5 tuna, the Badger got 13, Fish Asassin got 30 (600 and some pounds), the Enterprise got 23 and it didn't sound like the Irish had his usual high counts. Never heard how many the Surfrider took.

Pretty tough day but they all got fish and arrived home safely.

Hey Dan, thanks for the little gift you sent down to Marty's boat on Friday. I'm sorry I didn't come looking for you to chat. It was a long day (a good one with 37 fish), but I still had to drive back to Corvallis so I high-tailed it. If you wouldn't mind, send me an e-mail with your phone # as I'd like to give you a holler. e-mail is waterwise@comcast.net --Mark

p.s. A big thank you to James / El Shaddai for calling us back in on the bite. AT one point we had boilers, not just jumpers. We hooked & landed 7 fish in about 10 minutes on light gear casting swimbaits & iron to them.

Mark,

Glad you had a good day fishing. Heard you on Brad's radio when I was fileting his fish and knew you were coming in and would have liked to have met you and chatted with you. But I was already over an hour late for a BBQ 40 minutes away and fileting fish real quick and wanted to say hello to Eric (CK) before I left town.

Sent you an email with my phone# and hope to hear from you soon.

Will post my final thoughts on that other thread because I realize I have been a bit harsh but still feel very strong in my opinions of what I believe.

Mark.......I am not much of a picture/video guy, but that scene would have been great to capture on tape........you and Marty are machines.....tuna coming in the boat every couple minutes....I can sum it up with one word............wow!

Sort of a slow start yesterday finding them and getting 'em to bite, but it picked up as the day went on. Had 10 in the box when the sheep started to come out and we decided to head east, picked up the last 3 on the bumpy ride home.

Thanks Gregotis, Seasquid, edsr/NorRivDave for working together and calling us in.

Fish assAssin, did you save any numbers where you found the boiling happening, curious how close we were?

El Shaddai -- you da man!!

DBD -- cool vid, and thanks for the tips.

Time to throw a few pieces of fresh Tuna! on the grill and enjoy some lightly-seared fruit from the cark...

Badger,

We were out 32-33 miles from the inside bouy. It was blowing and rough and
snotty out there!! My son was so tired by the end of the day that he slept
'til noon-thirty on Sunday morning!

We ended up with 30 fish (same as SurfRider) and 632 pounds. Twenty-one
pound average! If you can't catch high numbers, it's always nice to have
a high poundage average!!

We caught one peanut Saturday. It really pulled our average down!!! It
weighed in at *only* 17 pounds!!

It was a pleasure to meet Depoe Bay Dan this weekend.
I also thank Gregotis for the coordinates and letting me tag along. My fuel capcity and boat size didnt allow me to stay out as long as I would have liked.
I will be fixing that next year. With a little luck I will have a new boat.
I lost my fuel gauge and didnt want to push my luck even though I had spare fuel on board.
I missed Seasquid maybe next time.
I really enjoy the comradery of fishing and it is a true pleasure for me when we all help eachother. Thank you everyone again
