Default Hearing protection + amplifier

What say you about muffs or inside the ear hearing protection with hearing amplification. I have poor ears and miss a lot in the woods. I would like to get something to address both hearing protection and improve sound detection. The prices are all over the board. I hate spending a weeks pay on an item like this. Anyone have reasonable success with lower end of the cost spectrum or do you need to crack the wallet hard to make it worth while? Do they have ones that remove ear hair while in use?

Great thread... I've yet to do any research but it's been on the back of my mind as well...

When I first bugled on my bull this year, if it weren't for my buddy being there with me I'd have never known there was a bull answering..... I can't hear much either.....

I have these... http://www.earinc.com/p1-electronic-hunting.php

I can't remember the price, but they weren't cheap. Worth every cent I paid for them...

Iv'e been calling elk for around forty years and have allways had to have someone telling me what was going on. A few years ago my hunting partner got a wenaha tag and I was the caller. after one full day we came out of the brush and I asked him how many bugles from how many bull did he hear that day. His answer was that he heard well over one hundred bugles from sisteen to twenty bulls. I had bought a cheap pair of in the ear aids and I only heard three bugles. When I got home I bit the bullet and bought hearing aids. The next year back in the wenaha I was hearing bugles that my partner couldn't hear. (I didn't rub it in to bad) well maybe I did. I don't think there is a low cost enhancer thats going to do what you want. The bottom line is save and get the best you can afford

I looked into the earinc also. The ones I want are 1100.00. I think I need the hearing aid first. The money they charge for some good ones is a crime.
