Default WA Umatilla Ponds

Were ice free on Wed. 12/10. Five flocks of mallards overflew the blind but did not drop in to the dekes. Being without a dog, I had resolved to drop them on the curl into wadeable water as the 12 feet high blackberries around the blind seem to swallow up any birds that fall. No duck movement around my blind after 1pm. Still, a beautiful day in tranquillity. Hope you guys can get there on Saturday Dec 13, with the stormy weather coming in the shoot'in should be excellent.

We were on the Oregon side of the Umatilla wildlife refuge on the 6th. Was a youth hunt only, but still was a lot of fun even though i wasnt able to shoot (i may look 17 or younger, but im not). My brother drew first pick, but we arrived 5 minutes too late. nevertheless, he did get his limit of 7 ducks by 9:00am. All drakes. Thousands of geese, but all were 70+ yards up. the pond we were at had 1/2" of ice arround the edges, but it wasnt too cold. Seen a herd of 15-20 mulies passing by no further then 200 yards, was incredible. Some massive bucks in the herd, made the trip for me.
