Default Great AP Elk hunting article

Not sure why this was on the KATU website but there is a great AP article about hunting Elk in Wyoming. Nice to see a national article that isnt slamming hunting once in a while:

Susie, a veterinarian, took over gutting the elk. She opened the animal from tail to throat skillfully with the stag-handled, German skinning knife I gave her years ago. She soon removed all its innards in a single mass.

what a lucky man.

A poetic tale of killing a yearling cow...

Sorry.

At least it was a positive hunting story.

I don't follow? I thought the story was well written and it shows hunting as something positive with more meaning then just killing stuff.

On the contrary at most it was a great story!!!!
Its nice to see stories like this that express how the majority of us elk hunters view the hunt!
60% hunt/family
30% meat
10% antlers

This story was given in a way that non-hunters could appreciate, maybe swinging there viewpoint from 'against' to 'for' hunting.

And I bet it was deeeelicious!

Herd management tags are given for a reason, and that reason was fulfilled. If I had an antlerless elk tag in my pocket, and a 1.5 year old cow was standing next to a 8 year old cow...grandma would live to lead her herd for another season!

Roy and Bruce.....you're both great guys, but I have to say, the attitude against "management" hunting is kinda sad. I personally think that the story is even better because it's NOT a great big bull!! Much tougher for the anti's to go after a story like this (they will anyway).
