Default There I was

On the columbia river 6am 9-5-03 fog was so thick you could walk on it. Most of the people stayed in port; well the smart ones anyway. We were a little lost until we saw a sauce brother tug go by . we cut across behind it to get out of the shipping lane; made it just in time. There was a big barge following it, probably lost in the fog . the bar was flat, the ocean was like a duck pond. we started fishing just past the CR bouy. I baited up & was getting ready to drop my bait in when I noticed that my line was looped on the end of my pole, my bait was a few inches from the water. I reached up to unloop it and a silver jumped up and took my bait. After that my partner and I took turns- one of us waved bait over the water and the other one netted them. Not as much fun as playing them but you don't have to mess with the hook. If they're too small or native you can just throw them back. Can't wait to go again. Would have been a good day to go for halibut if we knew where. PS does anyone know if halibut jump? Ray

Halibut jump? They will if you try to net them. I've watched that first-hand on at least a couple of occasions.

I don't care much for fog anywhere. In the Big Channel on the Big River, all I can say is no thanks.

Fog is bad, but that's scary. I gotta get a radar unit!

Gonzoray, please do not feel picked on here but I am suspending my disbelief just long enough to ask you a few questions.

1) Do you realize that Sause Bros is an ocean going tug and that most ocean going barges are towed 1/4 mile behind the tug? The 4" links on the tow chain are under water for most of the 1/4 mile.

2) What are you doing at CR in the fog? GPS or not you have no business playing around out there in zero visibility. The ship that cuts your boat in half would probably not see you on radar or even hear the crunch as you are keelhauled.

3) Are you for real?

4) Netting fish? .. uh never mind.

About two years ago a boat crossed between a tug and its load near Vancouver B.C.. Killed all 10 aboard. Sounds like a close call.id. p.
