Chucker Reports…. Anyone?
I’m headed over to the Big D this weekend to chase the little red legged devils around. Does anyone have any reports on birds? Good or Bad..
I’ve made it a number of times this year, so I do know that the numbers are down. With any luck this snow will hit and get the birds grouped up.

Bird numbers are about half what they normally are. That means instead of seeing 300 a day, you'll only see around 150..... Shot a limit last Thursday. Carrying the camera tomorrow and letting leadeyedbugger do the shooting...
Cheers....

I found a fair number of birds on the east side of the river last saturday. Busted a couple of coveys in the junipers back away from the rim as I was headed out too.

Picked up a handful of birds out there on a short hunt Sunday. It was the new pups first hunt too! Good times.

Long drive, lots of pressure, spooky birds, very dry, poor conditions.... Still beats sittin' at the computer all day.....

It can be good or bad, sometimes depending on how high you wanna hike. There are fewer birds, no question, but if you're a bit lucky you can bag some. Good dog work is critical. And to avoid the other gunners you may have to try new areas. Good luck!

Re: Chucker Reports…. Anyone?
Only hunted once this year, and it was only 2 weeks ago. Plenty of birds if you were willing to hike enought to find them. Had to vacate old stomping grounds and find new to get into birds. Once we did it was just like the days of old. Big groups, multiple flushes, lost singles, great hunting. Good luck to you, let us know how it goes

Re: Chucker Reports…. Anyone?
My first time ever (besides a failed trip in Halfway 3 years ago) was this thursday with my new dog, and we only saw 8 birds over 4 hours but I was extremely pleased to see Emma sniffing out the birds

Re: Chucker Reports…. Anyone?
I was able to hit two of my favorite places today. It was very hard hunting but, "the birds are scarce, but staring to group up"
Those that understand.... Will.
Good luck!

Re: Chucker Reports…. Anyone?
If some moisture from this current storm doesn't blow over the mountains the hunting will remain iffy. The birds that do venture up on top haven't been staying long as there has been no water available for quite some time. For now, I would think the lower slopes (within a few hundred yards of streams) would have more consistent numbers of birds especially later in the day.
