SI-Malarky
Anyone been out there that can comment on the water levels? I have a reservation on Friday and was wondering if I can hunt from my boat or will I need to hike the decoys in due to low water. I'm anticipating low water but thought I would ask. It doesn't look like the island is red hot but I thought I would try this unit for the second time in 5 years. Thanks all and pray for some snow/wind over the weekend.

Yeah, pretty low water right now. Boat might be more hassle than it's worth.
We almost got stuck on Sunday.

Re: SI-Malarky
Not positive of your post date but isn't the greater Portland area likely to get cold and snow this coming weekend?

Re: SI-Malarky
Was out there the other day... You will have very little water to even hunt in, no way on the boat.

Yep. Hunted racetrack last week and we could see the mudflat that is supposed to be sturgeon lake on the way out.
Hunted aaron a few weeks back and it was the same story. 40 yards between the cover of the shoreline and the actual water.

Re: SI-Malarky
Does anyone know if there is water in the 3 lobes of Malarky? I don't want to get my sled stuck so I was thinking of parking on the Gilbert and walking into and hunting one of the three lobes? I was excited to use my new blind but I guess that won't happen..... Thanks guys for the info.

Re: SI-Malarky
They must be releasing more water from the dam. For the most part we havnt really gotten any precip that would make it into the river, everything on the ground is evaporating, but the river is still going up and forecast to go higher. If we get the big storm that is supposed to come on wednesday-thursday and then again on saturday sunday with the weather warming up and melting everything on the groundwe could have some pretty high water levels out there!!!

This makes sense to me in preparation for low elevation snow melt starting probably on Sunday. The amount of moisture heading into the rivers and streams will likely have a significant impact. Hence the damns lowering the water levels to try and manage the amount of water and have some significant holding capacity. Pretty smart to be dumping water during the lull between the two storms actually.

On the eastside, usually boat only or a long walk

Re: SI-Malarky
My guess is they are dropping the water to generate more electricity with the cold temps. Really dont think there has been much in the way of snowfall. Heck the ski areas are barely open.
