Black tail books
Looking to get my son into some good black tail reading to give him more knowledge on hunting black tail. Does anyone have any ideas on what book or books would be the best to get. He's got the fever.

Re: Black tail books
I recommend "Blacktail Trophy Tactics II," by Boyd Iverson. He a bit over the top, but he knows blacktail bucks probably better then anyone in the country.

I would agree and say this is the number one book any blacktail hunter should have. The other book I would suggest is "Mapping Trophy Bucks" by Brad Herndon Very helpful in learning how to read your hunting area and know the where and why of hunter there.

Re: Black tail books
I would recommend both of Boyd Iversons Books. Blacktail Tactics #1 and #2. He has taken some of the biggest B.T.'s in Oregon that I have ever seen. Good Luck!

Re: Black tail books
Valerius Geist's has a good scientific type book.
Cameron Hanes has a good Bow hunting book.
Boyd Iverson has a(2 about the same) tree stand type hunting book.
Louis Terkla has an Oregon rifle hunting type book.
They all have good info, and they all have very similar info. They all cover general deer behavior and then branch off into the writers specific hunting style.
I find Cameron's and Louis's books to be more relevent to the, walk in behind locked gates, type hunting. The Boyd books seem very into detailed scouting of a small area and then tree stand hunting a specific deer.

Re: Black tail books
Not a how to, but a historical/journal of the top blacktails ever taken will be out next year by NW Big Game Inc. (they produce the Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana Record Books).
Keep an eye out for that book next year as well!
