Tuna Today - Skein, WP, Sea Jypzee & Sharie M
And the rockn’ reel went also.
Here’s a pic of the skeinmobile on it’s maiden tuna voyage:
On the way to the sacred tuna grounds!
Up real late and up real early but missed Nancy’s departure and the Sharie Marie. When I got there WP was just departing and Skein was just putting in with the help of Ray (Mr. Fisherman). Rockn’ Reel just showed up but both parties didn’t realize each other being ifisher’s so they didn’t get to talk to them until after they departed Depoe.
The Enterprise was at Tradewinds dock at zero dark thirty so it would be my guess he is tuna hunting today also.
The ocean looked good when they left and the forecast is good so I suspect they will all have a great time and do some serious catchin’.
Good luck to all of them and it was a real pleasure meeting Skein (Jim) last night and talking with him again this morning. Best of luck on his maiden voyage and I’m sure he’ll have a great time putting the other more serious blood in the boat today.
If I hear anything (fishing/catching reports and distance) via the VHF during the day I will post it.
Today
N wind 15 kt. Wind waves 3 ft. W swell 6 ft at 9 seconds.
Tonight
N wind 15 kt...easing to 10 kt after midnight. Wind waves 3 ft. W swell 5 ft at 9 seconds. Patchy fog late.

Re: Tuna Today - Skein, WP, Sea Jypzee & Sharie M
Well if Jim wants to print his maiden voyage pic (tuna) I did shoot it in a mode that shot a 5mb pic so it should print out ok. I really rushed it because I took one of him under the bridge coming out also and in that mode it takes my camera forever to download and shoot another so it wasn't focused real well. You can really zoom in without it digitalizing though but the ifish sticker wasn't focused good enough to actually read it.
Sorry Pilar but I was starting this thread at the same time you started yours and I am a real sloooww typer and the pic edit/upload, etc.
I'll post this info on your thread also and the guys can use this one or yours or start new threads once they get home.
Hopefully have some updates in a little while.

Just talked to Judy at Tradewinds and she said the Enterprise is tuna fishing and catching. That's all she knew. So I imagine the ifish fleet is doing some selective pruning also. (11:45AM)

Re: Tuna Today - Skein, WP, Sea Jypzee & Sharie M
Unfortunately when I just called Ray (Mr. Fisherman) he answered his cell phone in McMinnville. Guess there was a little more win chop than what Jim appreciated. Bummer!
Can't blame Jim though as I'm not fond of that rock and rolly stuff either.
Kinda bummed they didn't get into the tuna. Sounds like they met up with some warm water but just a little bit crusty. Guess they were out of the water around noonish.
Haven't heard from the others yet.

Re: Tuna Today - Skein, WP, Sea Jypzee & Sharie M
Ah don't worry about it Skein. Everybody I talked to both sides of the bay said it was pretty rough or nasty out there this morning. Sounds like it layed down a bit later in the afternoon but that is not to be expected.
WP and one or two others said you did the right thing that if you are not comfortable with it to come on back.
On the other hand there has been a lot of contenda's that haven't made it back.

I like that picture
Jim, when you get out there and bag the mother load of Tuna there will be someone looking at your picture thinking the same thing.
Patience bro, you did the right thing. You will get your turn. I couldn't say that if ya had not made it back safely.
Great job guys, Congrats

Actually Popeye when Spazz asked the question; how were the seas", the perfect storm popped into my head and I couldn't resist so off to google and the perfect storm website.
I just rotated that same picture clockwise 90 degrees and it makes for a pretty good pic.

Re: Tuna Today - Skein, WP, Sea Jypzee & Sharie M
Dan I think the Andrai Gail looked scary enough without rotating it 90 degrees. I remember being in Gloucester when I was a kid watching those fishing boats going in and out. I thought that was the life for me, until I was at Cape Ann one day when a NorEaster was building. Wow!
