What's your dream duck hunting destination?
I've had a real bad itch to go duck hunting lately just haven't found the time between work and just finished deer hunting. So I've been day dreaming at work and looking at all kinds of duck hunting stuff on line.
So I thought this would be a fun one...What's your dream duck hunt? Where would you love to go and for what species?
I have always wanted to go back east or Canada for some big water diver action. The idea of big water, nasty weather and big flocks of redheads and canvasbacks has always intrigued me.
I would also like to hunt somewhere for sea ducks, eiders and harlequins. Some place like the rocky shores of Maine.
So what are your guy's dream hunts?

Re: What's your dream duck hunting destination?
My dream hunt is in Tricities for mallards in the fields. Nothing like a cyclone of birds coming in to land by you!!

Cordoba, Argentina for Chilöe Wigeon and Bahama Pintail. More realistic is East Coast Black Ducks and Eiders.

Arkansas for flooded timber mallards and/or New Zealand. I'd love to try a combo duck/goose hunt with flyfishing for trout.

Re: What's your dream duck hunting destination?
I use to think I was crazy thinking about the far off lands to hunt big game. Not any more. Thanks guys, you give me a great example, I am not as crazy as those guys wanting to hunt 2 lb ducks in the same far off lands. A guided Sheep hunt pencils out far better than a South American duck hunt. I am >< much closer to selling the sheep hunt to my wife.

Re: What's your dream duck hunting destination?
- Plum Island, Massachusetts for Black Ducks.
- Chesepeke Bay, body booting, for Canada Geese.
- A trip out, for anything, with Pit Boss (Capt. Jeff Coats)
- Rocky shores of Maine for whatever flies by.
- Which ever Canadian province or American state that still allows sink boxes.
- Great Lakes for divers.
- The Dakotas for a week of freelancing.
- Izembek Lagoon.
- The Coca Cola club... for anything (I think that's the name)
- A week in the cabin, on the lake, that Gordon Macquarrie made famous with "Hizzoner"
- ...and I know it ain't ducks, but anywhere with Worth for band-tails
So, a little more than one spot, but once the day dreaming train starts, it's hard to stop.

Re: What's your dream duck hunting destination?
My cousin and I are planning a trip to Argentina (near-distant future). 31 species of waterfowl. A red stag. [and a wife]. Well I had to rethink the last part, as I was engaged in November. But 2 out of 3 won't be bad... and the future bride wants to visit friends there, so selling the trip is much easier.

I would really love to go to Canada someday for layout hunts on some big honkers. Or down in Mississippi in the timber for a mallard/gadwall hunt.
Or any good hunting with great friends and family!

Sea ducks. Alaska and Nova Scotia.
But realistically, these would have to be guided hunts. I just don't get the pleasure out of a guided trip that I do out of a DIY trip. On a guided hunt, you are basically just a shooter.

I live the dream every weekend.
But I have to admit that sea duck action off the coast of Maine sure looks like a lot of fun.
And those flooded timber hunts of Arkansas......oh MAN! To DIE for! I love timber hunts!
Come on water levels! RAIN, SLEET, SNOW....I don't care just so long as it brings up the river.
I'd take about 6ft.

Re: What's your dream duck hunting destination?
Might sound funny but all I want is to see one HOT HUNTING DAY anyplace here at home, with my dog working to retrieve all the shot birds.
this is my second season so many things are still new to me, good news is there are so many exciting firsts still left for me.
Nothing compares to seeing my boys make spectacular shots and the dog making spectacular retrieves.
The only thing I am spectacular at is bragging on what they do.....
Just one HOT HUNTING DAY WITH LOTS OF BIRDS FEET DOWN is all I want to see.

Re: What's your dream duck hunting destination?
New England seaducks. I would really like to try that open water UFO layout style hunting. Hunting in some of the old maritime/whaling towns with all that colonial architecture as a backdrop....that would rock!
Someplace in the Southern Hemisphere like Argentina. Duck hunting May-August would make our long off season more bearable.

Re: What's your dream duck hunting destination?
I'd really love to hunt Alberta for giant honkers (not these "squeakers"!) from a laydown blind. But--- Hunting waterfowl in South Dakota RULES!! Seen over 250,000 ducks in a cornfield. It was so loud when we drove by that you couldn't hear each other talking! Just "had to" stop and whhhhhack a limit! As we picked up the dead, the others didn't even flinch! Unreal stuff. Also seen a field "turn white" with snows many times. That's fun too. It's called "bonzai"-- You drive your rig right out into the field until they get nervous, then "bail and whail"!! Hunting the migration in SD has to be the best!

Re: What's your dream duck hunting destination?
Sorry i have a list
1. Mexico for Bull sprig limits
2. Canada in late september for ducks, honkers, specks and snows.
3. Our property where we work hard all summer planting duck food, camoing blinds, fertilizing, and much more. To see the birds use it in the fall and reap the benefits is very rewarding. My goal for this year: our property for a 7 drake wood duck limit.
4. South Dakota for spring Snows.
5. Argentina
6. Washington for harlis and oldsquaw
7. Lower columbia for WUSKY'S.
8. Quality goose hunts right here in the valley. Decoying cacks, tavs, lessers, duskys, westerns, aleutians, specks and snows. Seriously i feel like i am living the dream.
OK I think im done

My dream duck hunts are the memories of the great hunts I've had, wondering if they can ever be topped. Always looking for the elusive perfect hunt, but coming away warn out and satisfied nontheless.

If I had a hot tub in my yard, and if it was legal to hunt in my yard, I could take a few easy limits
I've been reading this thread with a fair amount of interest. Hunting black ducks back east is certainly challenging- they can be one of the wariest ducks around. But the bag limit is pretty darn restricted and it really isn't worth travelling out there for one black duck a day, even though you could legally bag a Tundra swan on the same trip.
Having hunted an awful lot of the east coast and midwest, I don't think there are many places in the US that offer a combination of quality of life, good employment opportunities, and excellent wing shooting as right here in the northwest. Nothing wrong with dreaming about going somewhere else- but overall y'all have it pretty darn good right here. Plus you've got salmon, steelhead, sturgeon, albacore, and halibut. Elk, blacktail, muleys....
If i was going to travel to duck hunt, it would likely be somewhere in Canada but when I have travelled up north it's usually been almost too easy to enjoy.
jmho, aw
