Default TUNA

I just got back from a 1 1/2 day trip in San Diego. 13 people fishing and limits on Albacore and Bluefin tuna and a couple of Dorado. The hot fishing is expected to last into October with a chance of Yellowfin and Big Eye to mix it up a little. I'm scheduled on a 2 1/2 day trip aboard the Top Gun 80, out of H&M Landing, that leaves on the 21st of September and they still had openings if anyone is interested.

And Dorado to boot..You guys must have been doing the kelp paddy thing too....You said limits so I guess the fleet is still fishing Mexican waters..Good luck later in Sept..Sure is nice fishing all the way till sundown and possibly waking up on top of the fish....Can you say big eye?????????

Booja 1, I've been fishing the Endeavor out of Seaforth for the past three years. I try to make three trips a year. David and the crew do a great job. I don't have much to compare them to since I've only been on one other boat and that was on the Rooster for a five dayer last year. I wanted to do a ten day this year on the American Angler but my inboard's motor had major problems that used up the fishing fund. Oh well, there's always next year. Care to join me? This last trip was in Mexican waters and we only had two jig stops! It was WFO for about five hours! Between hooks pulling out right at color and breaking others off, I was having a heck of a time landing fish. After limiting on the Albies and Bluefin, we headed for home looking for kelp paddies, hoping for a few yellows. The Endeavor trips are a private charter on which I am an invited guest so I can't take anyone with me but the other trips I want to go on are all open charters. The fiver last year on the Rooster was just a test to see if I was cut out for anything more. I think I am. I hopped on board not knowing a soul and was surprised to find about five others who were solo also. So hopefully I'll be on a ten dayer in 2004.

ANYBODY WANT TO PLAN A TRIP IN 2004? Probably in October. A ten day will get the most variety of fish. Albacore, Bluefin, Yellowfin, maybe Big Eye, Yellowtail, Wahoo and a variety of bottom fish. Anybody?

Boy that sounds great Salmurai..sounds like you're working your way up to the 18 day Clipperton trip..Nowadays I like to get off the boat every night and come home....Guess I'm getting soft.....A 5 day trip would be long enough for me since Guadalupe has been kicking out some really nice grade Bluefins to go along with all the monster yellows,,,,,,no to mention all the albies too....A friend just got back from a 5 day,,the Bluefins showed up good,,,He got a 185 lber only to get beat out on the Jackpot by a 207............

What are the limits down there? I can't imagine a boat with 13 limits of 25 (Oregon limit)! That takes a lot of ice and a lot of storage!

Mexican Limits from a post at AllCoast message board.
http://www.sport-fish-info.com/dcfor...189&forum=Main

Total of 10 fish per day per person with no more than 5 fish for each single
species per person per day. The exceptions are Marlin, Sailfish, Swordfish,
one per day. Dorado, Roosterfish, Shad, Tarpon, or "shark", two per day. If
sportfishing is conducted from a boat out at sea for longer than three days,
the bag limit will be the equivalent of three times the amounts mentioned
above.

Booja 1, How did you know Clipperton was in my plans? Have you been there? The trip I have been invited on is in January. I need to some how schedule it in my vacation time. Too early in the year to use it all up! A 185 and a 207 on a five day? Amazing! What boat was he on? I did a fiver on the Rooster last year and it was just like a one day only longer. I was hoping for Guadalupe but the skipper opted for the local thing. Great trip overall but I don't plan on going on that boat again until I try all the others in her class. How about a seven or eight day? That would get us into the wahoo if we're lucky. Thanks to Avid for the info. Would YOU be interested in a LR trip, Avid?

I am already going on a ten day trip in the next month. I might be interested depending on what boat you would be talking about.

Avid, I've heard nothing but good about the RP. What fish processor are you using? Mario? He is a good guy. Are you having it all shipped? The cost of shipping just kills me, but what are the choices? Let me know how you do. GOOD LUCK. WOW, a 90# Wahoo! WAHOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!

Just returned from San Diego where I went out on the Legend (Seaforth) for a 24 hour trip. 27 anglers, 91 bluefin, 40 albies, 1 skipjack. We had to come in early as the fish holds were full. Both bluefins and albies were running in the 30-35 lb range. The crew was fantastic. I highly recommend them.

This was the first time I've ever done one of these. It'll be the first of a long line of trips I suppose.

I'm afraid I'm no longer satisfied with those puny little salmon. They don't taste as good nor put up 10% of the fight.

Avid, don't forget the knee pads and chapstick. Not only useful while fishing but also cuts back on the honey doing! Catch a Wahoo for me.......

So fellas,
What kind of costs are you looking at here? I think (I might be speculating) many of us in this Portland/Vancouver area would be interested in a trip of this nature, granted it could be easily afforded.
Can you give us a basic run-down of required costs, fees, equipment, tackle and gratuities?
It helps us uninformed types to make better decisions.
With boats like the Black Rockit here in our own back yard, we'd have to weigh it all out to see if it's even worth it.
Thanks,
Ragnar the Berserker

Ragnar,
hang on to your hats when you see the prices.
I think it is all relative when you look at what your getting. With that said.....KUJO's Black Rocket is a great deal!!

Oh yeah, it isn't cheap, but it is cheaper than Alaska. I too would like to go out with Capt. Kujo. Sounds like a blast, but we're comparing apples to oranges. If you really like to fish, you just have to try it sometime if for no other reason than to say, "Been there, done that." But watch out for the bug........
