Re: Shark Attack
It just makes 'em easier to hold up. That's a real interesting shape BTW. Smaller fish make a cleaner corpse as you can see.
DSD's was a Mako, what kind was yours? Or did you even get to see it?

Re: Shark Attack
Ahhhh, the famed Pacific Swiss(cheese) Halibut. Or is it a Pacific Halichewedup?
Or do we just say that you got your 'but' chewed?
O.k. I'll stop now....

Re: Shark Attack
I sure hope you don't do the Old Man and the Sea thing with those sharks if you get a swordfish. That would really bite. Literally.

Re: Shark Attack
Look at that ocean Shark or no shark I want to be there. The first time would be a thrill but after that it would get old real quick. Great pics

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">Robin, it NEVER gets old. If you don't start you will never have to try and stop going back to the Ocean.
If you haven't been and would like to go this is a good place to let that desire be known.
It is good luck to give someone their first time trip on the Big Blue Pond.
Good luck and by the way, it is NEVER too early to start saving money for your boat....

Re: Shark Attack
In Bill's recent article in the Oregonian, It showed a charter Captian holding a revolver and the caption mentioned that he was using it for sharks.
Is this a common practice? Is it legal kill a shark that way?

Re: Shark Attack
Hey Ray,
Take a look at Wet Flys' signature line. He's the Captain of the Lady Irish.
He is moored on B dock just across from Popeye.

Re: Shark Attack
Fastwater,
Don't know if it's illegal or not, but anyone who brandishes a cocked revolver on the big water is probably a candidate for the Darwin Award. When that thing goes off and it ain't pointed where it should be, it's not going to be like a hook in the finger.
I sure don't want to be fishing anywhere near him. Sheesh!

Re: Shark Attack
Just don't shoot them IN the boat!
While Halibut fishing in Alaska about 10 years ago, the boat owner used a .44 mag to dispatch them. It was a lot of fun - like hunting and fishing at the same time. We shot them all - 30 pounders, 80 pounders, it didn't matter. I had a shark (not sure which species) grab my herring and he hung on to the leader so tight (wasn't even hooked) that I was able to lift him all the way out of the water - we shot him 9 times with a .22 pistol until he let go of the leader!

Re: Shark Attack
I contacted the OSP and they said it was legal to shoot shark and halibut from the boat. (Though they did not recommend it    )
