Default Attn Team Swordfish!

I have a call into a fellow at PFMC in PDX. He specializes in "highly migratory palagic fisheries." I have a hunch that this is our dude
He is supposed to be back in the office tomorrow Sept.3, hopefully he can just blast out some numbers for the Plastic Jesus.
When are you guys leaving?
Is it still tenative? Weather pending I'm sure.
I will use this post to keep you up to date as info comes my way. So check in from time to time. O.K.?
I'll see what I can do...
Best of luck out there lads!

Troy my brother ... we are targeting the week of 9/8 to 9/17.

I have asked several others by Email and have already recieved a couple of negative replies.

Here's the question for the rest of you...

Does anyone know first hand or know someone who knows ... where the commercials that fish Swords off our coast are fishing?

Just ball park would be great. The reports I read say 1/2 million pounds a year caught in Oregon waters and landed in California.

Ragnar, you are the man! Keep us posted.

Popeye/Pilar,

I'm sure you've probably already done this but have you tried calling Dept. of F/W in Cali to talk to the Commercial fishing head there? Perhaps ChumKing could direct you to the right place since he's the ODFW Commercial Fishing lead?

I found a number for Cali--(916) 227-2245
You could find ChumKing's info online or just email him.

Well Lads,
The lead I had was a dead end. I think your best bet for numbers will come directly from the sword-fishermen themselves. I can only imagine that challenge.
Perhaps Pilar can put them into a positive/sharing state of mind with his infinate words of wisdom and kind persuation skills.
Best of luck on that one.
Sorry things didn't work out the way I had hoped...
Go get 'em boys!

Well, My Father has worked in the commercial seafood industry as a broker his whole life, and he knows EVERYONE. So I called him to see if he had some buddies who Swordfish the Eastern Pacific, and got few leads.

I was told that Swordfishing is closed to commercials right now north of Point Conception in CA, so there is no hot news from the any skippers north of there. The only advise I obtained you already know. Get out to the right thermocline and start fishing! I did hear that they can be taken on the surface during the middle of the day with a harpoon, a few big bouys, and alot of rope!

Good Luck Gentlemen!

Sky-Guy....Thanks ever so much for the effort! I believe the commercial season outside 75nm begins Oct.1, however, we are Oregon sportfishing and there are very few restrictions. In fact....the limit is 25 per day per person If by chance he does find out anymore, please let us know

Right now, Mr. F, the updated float plan is "wait and see"...

I'm trying to focus on the positive - we're ready, we're set, we'll go when SHE let's us go.

Patience me hardie's. When venturing that far offshore, it's very wise to wait for a more favorable weather forcast. I've just talked to Popeye and we will be standing by for weather clearance.

I know 'PATIENCE MY ARSE, I WANNA BOAT A SWORDIE'!

Calm winds, smooth seas and good fishing guys. If anyone can do it you guys can. I'd love to join in one of these years. Got a few things to take care of first.
