Default Help with grandpas boat?

Well I'm hoping you guys can give me some good advice. Grandpas old boat finally used up its last fishing trip. He had an old riveted aluminum boat(i think it was a starcraft). Anyways it cracked where he had it welded and that was the final draw he's buying a new boat.

He wants a welded aluminum boat with an outboard that would be very seaworthy. Looking for something around 21' that stays within his $20,000 budget. What do you think would be a good boat for him?

Thanks for the advice.
Kris

Better have him check out the boat's for sale on this site. Sturgeon Tom has one SWEET 21' Whitewater marine for sale if I was in position to buy it I wouldn't say a word because that is one sweet deal. Check it out you will see what I mean.
Tim

P.S. I just noticed that you said outboard, but all the same he should check out this boat it is great

Seriously, get on the Ad. board and look at the 21' white water for sale approx. $19,000. That would be a great deal for you and ther should not be any upgrades that need to be made or new canvas that needs to be bought. Besides it sounds like Sturgeon Tom really loves this boat and will give you a great rundown on how to use it and tell ya about all the little nuances that come with boats especially used ones.

Nothing personal against Toms' boat; I think it is priced right too.

However; I think outboard or I/O with prop is the way to go if your planning on fishing Blue Water.

I own a jet boat and the efficiency sucks!!!

Therefore I had to buy a second boat for the Ocean.

Welded, alluminum, 21ft, and under 20,000???

Your not talking new. Even Edwing would be challenged to build a boat for that.

Even used 20 footers in good shape are going for more than that. Inboard jets can be had a little cheaper only because there are more of them available. Welded alluminum boats with outboards are a rare breed.

My advice:
Wait for a couple months and start watching the boat trader magazine.

Good luck

Don't be afraid to buy used, just be aware of what you can be getting in to. I went with a new boat because I wanted to be involved with the layout from the get-go. There's a price for that.

Try watching for a sound aluminum boat designed for heavy water but with maybe a bad engine, then hang a new motor on it. Ten grand for a boat and ten grand for a motor and, voila, you have a 20 G boat that is ready and dependable.

Good luck in your search - and be sure to get one that's gonna be safe when you take it out there.

I guess I should of mentioned that he is looking to buy a used boat. He also wants a prop boat so even though toms boat is sweet it is not what he's looking for. Thanks for the replies though.

Well I think he's gonna have to step up his budget. Do any of you salty dogs have experience with a wooldridge deep water? He seen one of them and I think that is what he would like to get. I know it will be like a needle in a haystack, but he's not in a big hurry so maybe we'll get lucky.
