what do you want to shoot with it.. assume big game? The better tips I had read and used , but have little evidence of their success, are the nosler partition HG, and then the Elmer Keith 250gr. You can get the nosler preloaded in winchester brass, and the EK you got to build it yourself. Those are the two premium solutions,, curious how they will stack up to the power ball. ??

Powerball is an excellent 45ACP self defense round (from what I read and hear), produced by CORBON Ammunition. It feeds really well in 45's that can be finicky otherwise (1911's). It is a hollowpoint with a polymer ball inserted in the hollowpoint, making it feed like a FMJ round. I know of a few guys who shoot them in their 1911's, but mine feeds other HP's just fine, so I haven't tried them. When they first came out, they were only offered in lighter weights so I wasn't interested at all then, but you just pointed out to me they now produce a round in 230gr. They are pricey, but what factory ammo isn't nowadays.

The ammunition is marketed as a self defense round, but in any wound ballistic demonstrations it fails miserably. There is simply not enough penetration with the round and if you are trying to wound something, then you've got the right ammo.
I've had cops bring the ammo in for testing and then stand there shaking their heads, wondering why they bought it.
Pick out a good quality HP round, with bullet integrity that will handle any of the barrier materials you will encounter in a shooting situation:
Heavy clothing, wall board, plywood (door material ) or glass. You want a round that will expand, stay together and penetrate.
Speer, Federal, Winchester all offer quality in this category.
