I have in years past. Rattled up and killed a good buck in mid December a few years ago.

Normally we get some snow down to 2500-3000 ft by now. I sometimes drive a few roads and locate where the party is happening and start following fresh tracks. You can usually find where big bucks have been bird dogging trying to find the sweeties. It's not uncommon to walk-up a buck if the conditions are right.

Good luck!

My hunting partner and I were up hunting the Cascades all day yesterday above 6500'. We worked the timber stands hard, but the conditions were terrible for hunting. Very dry ground, no wind, and warm blue bird weather all day.

We saw two doe up feeding on their own around noon, and one decent three pointer up feeding mid-afternoon, no shot opportunities.

The wet weather that started today is supposed to continue through the week, maybe we'll catch a break and get some late rut activity by the bucks during daylight hours before the season ends.

The weatherman on KATU in Portland just said the snow level MIGHT be down to 500 ft next weekend!

We'll see if it develops though.

They are calling for snow showers and a low of 27 next saturday night at least here in springfield I went with my brother today and saw 3 little bucks. We might hunt high next weekend he has a deer tag and I can shoot a cow. But I would rather rattle in bucks for him hopefully there is a rut left by next weekend. How late do you guys normally see rut activity up high
