Default CWA West Coast Pintail Population Study

I recently shared some emails with California Waterfowl Association member regarding a west coast pintail study they are conducting to determine whether a more liberal bag limit should be instituted for our flyway. Most of us see huge numbers of Sprig from time to time in both East and West of Hebo, and wonder why the heck we are stuck on one per day, year after year. The goal of the study would be to determine if harvesting more would effect the overall contintental popualtion in a negative way. Most would agree that based on field observations, taking one or two more drakes in the daily bag limit is unlikely to have much of a detrimental imapct on the species, but we don't have the data to back it up. This CWA fellow said in an October airial count over 900,000 birds were spotted in the Sacramento Complex alone. I'll post more information regarding the study when I get it, and it would be worth a small donation from those of us who want to see more done on this issue. If anyone else knows more about this study, please chime in.

I'd be very interested in reading this study if you get a copy and can post it.

This is what I know so far, taken from another... from a CWA member. One thing I want to clarify, is whether Oregon could be brought into the study somehow, or at least if the end data supports it, a push be made to include all 3 west coast states in the efforts to expand the bag limit. So, there aren't any results to show yet, but I am sure I can get more detaisl about the proposed study. I will try to answer some od those q's and find out how to make a donation.

"CWA is working hard to increase the amount of Sprig in the bag through a banding project !!This is to show the USFWS that the way they set the regs is flawed and needs to be revamped . CWA need to raise alot of money for a 3 or 4 year period to keep this banding project going.
If you are tired of seeing just 1 Sprig in the bag why don't you jump on board and kick in a few bucks toward this project. Total cost will be close to 1 Million $$$$$ to make this project work.
I personally am sending them $100 and challenge others to match my donation .
Partnering for pintail is the project and if you make a donation it is tax deductible."
