Re: Anybody chasing TUNA! on Friday ...
I've not heard any real current reports Mark. Looking at the latest SST I'm tempted to make a shot for 45 10, 124 40 area for the saturday trip if the weather and seas give us a chance. That's my best 'guess' where to shoot for. I don't know of anyone who's actually made it out offshore this week to search for them except the last report from Marty.

Re: Anybody chasing TUNA! on Friday ...
Thanks Nancy. Marty caught them in the same general area that I was fishing
on Saturday. I *really* don't want to have to go out that far again on Friday!
'Specially if there are no other boats that are going to be out there!!

Yep, that's a long trip. If I had the range to make it cost effectively, I'd probably make the run out there. I could cut my speed down to conserve fuel, but it'd be a 5hr run out there and back that way. One thing if going out for an overnighter, another to try to do it on a day trip.

Re: Anybody chasing TUNA! on Friday ...
The last tidbit of info I heard was a boat running out of Garibaldi got into them pretty good south and west about 20 miles. Don't know any numbers, but I will dig around. Weather doesn't look too encouraging for the week-end. Its suppose to be 90 degrees in the valley, so that means thermals and that means north wind on the coast. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

Twenty miles is *plenty* do-able!! I'd like that a lot!!
Hey Marty, I sent you two e-mails this morning and they both came back to me
as undeliverable. I resent them. Did you get them?
Thanks,

Re: Anybody chasing TUNA! on Friday ...
I was looking at around 45 10 and 125 40 area. Looks like the same temp break area as you were talking about. It's a long run up, if we could do it early on before the wind picked up, we'd just have to ride it down south coming back home in the afternoon.
Will have to see what things are looking like when the weekend approaches.

Re: Anybody chasing TUNA! on Friday ...
Was just down at the boat and ran into Lars on the Samson. He was telling me that he spoke to a commercial tuna fisherman out of Newport. His report (3rd hand of course, so who knows how accurate this is) was that the main body of fish were moved out 100 miles offshore. :depressed:
I'm glad that I got my fish when I did. It's not REAL uncommon to be able to get them clear into October here, but with the way the weather has been misbehaving lately, who knows really.

Re: Anybody chasing TUNA! on Friday ...
No email here.........but then again I'm suppose to have been out tuna fishing this morning with the fleet. Looking at the terrafin pics, it looks like the 45 15 to 45 20 & 124 40 is an area about 20 some miles from Garibaldi and has 63 to 64 degree water with edges. That would be my guess on where they got them out of Tillamook and a close enough place to investigate. To get up that far north in this wind wouldn't be fun, but it seems doable if we ran out of Garibaldi and then returned to Depoe. Maybe someone could start a shuttle service til this north wind slows down.
