Late season blacktail reports
Well the season is half over now and for me its been okay seen 4 different bucks, missed 1 small 3 point, saw 2 does thats all i have to report i have been hunting in the molalla corridor area (public land) not weyhauser. What general areas you been hunting and what kind of action have you had? seems to me this is a real slow year for the late season not many have been taken at least here on ifish.

Re: Late season blacktail reports
I've been out a few times locally and am not seeing much sign anywhere. I've seen a few does and one spike. Very few new rubs either. I'll be out in the morning. Good luck out there.

Re: Late season blacktail reports
We saw 8 bucks today, 3 of them were on does. So it appears that there are still a few does that have not been bred yet. The activity is a bit lower than usual because of the weather pattern. It appears we will not get any weather for quite some time...Good luck out there....

Clear cold nights probably aren't helping you, Hawk.

Re: Late season blacktail reports
Went out yesterday morning. Drew on a doe at 40 on the way in, but let her walk. Got set up and rattled in a buck, never did get a good look at him through the brush though. Well within range (30 yrds or so), but you know how THAT goes. Shortly thereafter, CRASH, SNAP! For about 20 minutes. Didn't get to see what it was, but most likely a herd of elk...deer just aren't that noisy. Bailed out at 10am to see my patient at 2.

Re: Late season blacktail reports
I missed a doe last night...twice....DOAH! This morning got out of bed and saw 3 does in the yard. Couldn't get a shot. Grabbed the rifle and headed into the canyon out back. Jumped a buck, but couldn't get a shot. Then jumped a spike. Passed him at first because he was so small bodied I thought it was a fawn. Got on him again at 150 yards, but didn't feel comfortable with my rest. The saga continues tonight.

Re: Late season blacktail reports
We hunted in the Santiam last weekend. Hunted high in the NFone day, low on timber company land the next. Saw one doe saturday, and four on sunday. No bucks, few fresh rubs, more bear ,elk, and cat sign than deer. From what I can tell the deer are moving at night. Im skipping this weekend, the weather just isnt helping things so Ill save my gas $$$ and hope things improve soon. My dad is now working in the upper clack area and has not been seeing very many deer. He put the sneak on a 4 point last week and was busted, then saw what he believed to be the same deer riding out in the back of a pickup the next day. More guys in the woods than I can remember in recent years. There were trucks at every gate on Sunday. Even saw some guys out running hounds. Oh well, at least were not getting wet.

Re: Late season blacktail reports
I hunted the Willy unit Sunday. Saw more deer today than I had in 3 days last week. Passed on 3 does, saw a great buck, 4X5 feeding off of an apple tree in a farmers yard on the way out. Neck was still swollen but looks like it is going down.
