Default Chinook and Tuna

John's article was a little too late! Went out today to the pile and it was slow for us. Ended with one keeper for two rods. lost one 30ish one at the boat to frayed toughline! The wife may never forgive that one...she fought it really well through four runs and then lost it within sight! Lots of drive-bys and caught 5 or 6 very large silvers for some fun but sad that one will die for sure :depressed: Tuna try in the morning from Depoe. The ocean was magnificient..big slow swell and slick smooth, even into the afternoon. I have high hope for tomorrow. I am hopeful that others will be trying tomorrow too. I plan to go northwest until I hit about 45.05 or so and then basically west. I would like a better plan but that seems the only hope for tuna, for me. Wish me luck and I will report when I return. Thanks John, for the spots to try. I think I need to go with you someday and learn your techniques. I have a lot to learn about slow deep fishing the pile!

Good luck WP. I think you've got a reasonably good plan. Hopefully you'll get into some fish inside of 55 miles offshore.

well, the plan was short lived. The Depoe Bay bar was closed to under 26 ft and the ocean was lumpy out as far as I could watch a charter going out. Think I'll look tomorrow. I would be interested in any reports from Coos Bay or south too....maybe a chance to make an exploratory trip to the south side! Better luck tomorrow, WP

Wow, WP, whats up with that? 9PM at 48050, 5.8kts, 9sec, and swell at 6.9'. It must be a lot worse in person than it appears to be here at the computer. Depoe closed to 26 and under?

What's that do for tomorrows tuna trip? Right now there are calling for 10kts and a 5ft swell.
Going right now to check to see if my crew is in for tomorrow for sure. Man thats a bummer!!!
