Hi all,
This is my first post to the board. I've been lurking for a bit, and think this is a terrific place. I appreciate how civil and helpful and comic everyone is.

About me: I'm a pretty experienced salt water fisherman from Southern California (I know--booooo--please forgive me), and now live in Battle Ground. I had a 20 ft Mako center console down in SoCal. I've done salmon fishing on the ocean but I'm pretty green when it comes to freshwater fishing.

Funniest Fishing Story : I was in my 20's and too poor to have a boat or afford a charter, so I was fishing with my girlfriend on a big barge off the SoCal coast. She came up to me, with a cut just above her right breast, pointed toward a rail where people were fishing, and said "that guy over there was casting, and didn't even look behind him, and caught me with his jig" (she pointed to the cut, not terrible, but not completely minor either--I shuddered at what could have happened). In full dander I went up to the guy, saying, "You need to watch where you're casting, man". He got in my face-I retorted, we nearly came to blows, but finally we both backed down.

I went back to my honey, proud of having defended her, and said "Well, at least maybe he'll look where he's casting next time."

She looked at me, then pointed.

"No, it was _that_ guy."

* * *

My goal now is to learn as much as possible about this terrific fishing environment. I plan on buying a boat once I know enough to know what I should get. Any help from anyone will be deeply appreciated, and I really look forward to getting to know everyone.

Steve

P.S. I couldn't think of a clever name when I registered, and thought I could just change it, so for now I'm not very colorful, but I'm working on it.

Steve,

20ft Mako Center Console, Thats a nice saltwater rig. Must've gotten alot of Yellowtail down in Socal. My old man just had a 26ft Robalo Walk around. I was down in the Carribean not too long ago, rented a 28ft Mako with Twin 225's, Mako definatly makes solid boats ill tell ya. Anyways fishing around here is good, you may not see as much action as you do in socal, But once you get a salmon you will pride yourself and become a better fisherman. I reccomend that you hire a guide and let him show you the ropes around here. I personally recommend Jack Glass of Hook up guide service. He owns a tackle shop on the sandy river called Jacks Snack and tackle. this is in Sandy or Troutdale, Or. Im sure if you call info you can get his number.
Hope all this helps.

Dylan

Thanks for the welcomes everyone--I hope I can contribute something.

Dylan,

"20ft Mako Center Console, Thats a nice saltwater rig."

It was a good boat, with twin 90's and lots of room. Lots of yellowtail, barracuda, kelp bass, and when I lived in NorCal, lings, cabezon and rockfish.

" I reccomend that you hire a guide and let him show you the ropes around here. I personally recommend Jack Glass of Hook up guide service. "

Thanks so much for the info. This environment is so diverse that using a guide makes a lot of sense. I'll definitely look him up.
