Default Shed Hunting

Heading to Klamath falls on christmas break. Never been over there and was wondering about any shed hunting opportunities. Dont need any hotspots just wondering were i could go and maybe find a couple deer or elk sheds. We dont mind getting way off the beaten path. Any info is much appreciated. Thanks HH

I have found brown deer antlers as early as the 11th of December while out coyote hunting..I wouldn't say fresh sheds were out..

I don't know about that area though, I live in eastern Oregon

a lot of people hunt sheds down here so it may be pretty tough finding any. one thing that you can do is head south of Klamath to the Lava Beds and take a look at some big ol muleys in the rut. i was down there a couple of weeks ago and saw 8 or 9 good bucks and a few smaller ones.

mostly all mulies in the klamath basin but when you start getting closer to the cascades IE lake of the woods there are some crosses and mostly blacktail. as far as shed hunting goes, I havent done any extensive shed hunting but south facing slopes are best. the few sheds I have found are in places that your guess would be just as good as mine. get a USFS map or ODF map and try to find some public land that joins up against farms (alfalfa fields). klamath river canyon, Keno area and/or Langell valley would be my first choices but be sure you know where you are as there are alot of landowners that wont be to happy if they catch you wandering around on their property.
