Default Surge Brake question

I discovered this weekend that the breakaway cable for my surge brakes on the Shorelander boat trailer had rusted thru and broken off just where it enters into the hitch connector.

The cable enters the hitch thru the top and inner working are hidden from sight inside the hitch assembly.

Anyone have any suggestions on fixing this cable? It appears the hitch assemble would need to be removed to access the cable's connection point. Is the cable replaceable, or should I plan on replacing the entire hitch assembly?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Is it possible to order a manual from Shorelander?
If it needs disasembled, any break in the break line will require bleeding the brakes and toping off the master cylinder.
I am new to surge brakes too and look forward to reading other replies.
I'm thinking it sounds mechanical and may be able to be replaced without having to bleed the brakes but it all depends on how far down you have to dissasemble it. Hopefully it is just a cover that needs removed?
Good luck, keep us posted.
Where are you planning to work on it? Are you close to Hillsboro? I may be able to help.

Ray, the trailer is approx 13 years old... so doubt they'd have a manual for it. Right now the trailer is stored in Newport... will be brought home to Aloha in next 60 days.

Just the cable broke.... all else apprears to work. Maybe splice it?

Don't see an 'access cover' as the entire outside of the hitch assembly is part of the structural system.

Good ideas... anyone else have any experiance with surge brakes?

Honestly, it depends on what the actuator is. There are different brands out there that let you get in to the inside to do repairs and others that do not. This is really tragic! I just threw away my old actuator that worked perfectly fine! I'm talking like 2 weeks ago! I could have given you that one and there would have been no worries, except for bleeding the brakes.
I would take it to trailer world and see what they say about it. They are located in portland.
good luck!

Just splice it together. Aluminum sleeves hardware store. If your trailer ever comes unpined the cable pops. No problem.
