Bow question
I have recently become interested in bow hunting. First I did some research on the mechanics of bows and brands but, now I need some actual "user reviews." I have no idea which bows are actually as nice to shoot as the adds say. ANY input on a nice shooting bow at a decent price would be appriciated.
What I am looking for;
I want an accurate bow first. Speed, stealth, let off, ke and the least amount of recoil are also on the top end of the list.
While I have never hunted with a bow before I don't want to start with a cheap "beginner" bow. I believe you get what you pay for. BUT... I'm not looking to break the bank either.
I can work out draw length with a dealer.

Re: Bow question
first off shoot as many bows as you can get your hands on. Don't get hooked by name brand find one that feels right in your hand and the one that feels most comfortable to shoot. There are so many good bows out there. Diamond by bowtech has some great bows, Mathews and missions bows, bowtech, Parker.

What he said.
Go to a shop that carries several brands and shoot them all. Don't get hooked by the name or the adds, or what someone else likes best.

Re: Bow question
I agree with Eagleclaw. Shoot several and get one that feels right for you. You are probably looking "at least" $450 for a new bow, but need to plan for another $300-$500 in everything else you will need (arrows, broadheads, rest, stabilizer, sight, quiver, case, target, etc.)
Also, with the recent release of the 2009 models, now is a really good time to pick up a 2008 top of line model and save several hundred $$$.

i agree with eagle claw as well. don't let anyone make your choice for you, you have to like what you are buying, and be comfortable with it as well. good luck

Re: Bow question
Consider this.
Define your price range. For simplicity, lets say your budget is $1000. Go out and shoot as many bows that cost between $800 and $1200. Find the one that fits you best. Find the one that you are most comfortable with. Find the one that feels the best in your hands, the one that you are confident holding.
The bottom line is that all bows in a similar price range will fling a stick with similar speeds, given the proper controls. What it really boils down to is how comfortable and confident you are with the gear you have. It doesn't matter the name of the product, when it was made, or all the extras that are on the bow. What does matter is that you know you can make your shot with it.

or... instead of buying a good bow, and then later wishing you had bought the best, just get a Mathews and be done with it

Re: Bow question
I have owned a pse nova for about 13 years, It was what I could afford at the time. It still shoots bulls as good as the day I bought it. Granted I got the naked frame and put on all top of the line arrow rest, bow string, sights and quiver. I love the bow to death even though I could afford a fancy pants one I will shoot the nova till it breaks there is way to much history on it to change.

Re: Bow question
Dodge is way better than Ford or Chevy.
Gator, in doing your research....my advice is don't get caught up in all the internet discussions on "which bow is best". It is a nasty vortex that is easy to get sucked in to. Many people will defend their bow and brand loyalty until their keyboard smokes and fingers bleed.
With that said...chicks digs guys who shoot Bowtechs.

Re: Bow question
Martin makes a great bow also and they wont break the bank, I have an altitude and I am shooting 290 fps, at 66 lbs. Mine was very light until I started adding accessories to it. Mine weighs about 7 lbs now.
Just dont limit yourself to bowtech or mathews, there are many good brands out there.

Re: Bow question
go shoot one of the 5 new mathews simple the best there is! i will be ordering one this week. i do like the new Hoyt but the new mathews is crazy and i have to have one. either way i would stick with mathews or Hoyt but only if they feel good in your hands. i do not care what everyone else thinks is a good bow if it does not fit you it is not a good bow for you.

Re: Bow question
Like a lot of others have said go to a good bow shop and shoot some. We all have our brand preference but that doesn't mean that is one that will feel good to you. I shoot an 08 Bowtech Guardian and love it, many others don't care for the design. So it is a preference.
I see your in Camas not to far to stop in at Archery World over on Grand here in Vancouver and shoot some. They Carry Hoyt and Mattews as well as a few others. They don't carry Bowtechs if your wanting to shoot one of them. Good luck and enjoy, I wish I had gotten into archery a long time ago if for nothign else I love shooting my bow on a regular basis.
