Cougar pics
These were taken with a homemade trailcam above Blue Creek east of Walla Walla, WA.
Pretty neat pics.

I too recieved these photos from my mom (she forwards about 4 emails a day)
The images are too cool. They look familiar. Anyone know the whole story first hand ? New photos or recycled I'm glad they were posted. I've yet to see a cougar in the wild.

Yeah, i'd love to hear this story first hand. I'm especially interested in understanding why the background changes from picture to picture. I'm guessing the cat hit the trail cam. Still, i don't want to assume, i would much rather hear it first hand.

Agreed, but that cat must have hit the camera, very interesting that it would do that. Hmmm.....are trail cams considered bait??? Maybe it was looking for the thing that placed the camera, probably was licking the scent off the camera and licking it's lips!

Re: Cougar pics
After looking at the originals again and his other pics, it looks like he is copping the images when he posts them, so it is hard to tell if the cam moved or not.

Re: Cougar pics
Yes, cropping is the other solution... I was just curious if the cat messed with the camera is all.
I am not trying to cast a shadow on the authenticity of the images. Far from it. I'm just curious to know if the cat was 'playing' with the camera. I would love to hear if any physical damage was found on the camera itself.
I've had bears move my cameras around. I've had cattle move my cameras. I have the damage on my cams to prove it. I'd love to see how much that kitty beat up the camera, if that is what happened.

I realize that. Sorry if it sounded like that's what I thought. The owner of the pics was asked if the cat messed with the cam or if they were cropped and he never responded. They are on HW...

The photos are real and the last one was cropped, He uses very nice cameras that he builds himself. Gets some great elk pictures and Golden eagle pics every year. Pics come from Southwest Washington.

Sorry about the mistake, Southeast Washington. Been a long day with the grandkids.
Thanks for catching the mistake, I live in southwest WA and don't believe you could see that far with all the brush, lucky to see the ground with all the Oregon grapes and salal.

Big OOPS on my part, thanks for catching the mistake.
Southeast WA. Had the grandkids visiting and lost my bearings for a while. He does get some closeup bobcat photos also. Think he hangs out on a antler shed forum somewhere also, you can't believe the elk sheds he gets every year.
Sorry about the mistake, cliff

Re: Cougar pics
I registered here so I could tell the story behind these pictures. I was surprised to see my pictures found there way to a fishing forum. Cliff is right, these pictures have been cropped. Most of my trailcams are 12.1 mega pixel Sony cameras, but these pictures were taken by an 8.1 mega pixel camera. On November10th, I wanted to field test a 12.1 mega pixel trailcamera that I had built for a friend in Colorado. So I set up his camera with a deer carcass. That small whitetail buck had been laying on the highway for five days when I picked it up on November 10th. On November 16th, I picked up my friends camera to mail to him. His camera had taken pictures of magpies and golden eagles, so i replaced it with my oldest camera, an 8.1 mega pixel camera. Last winter, I had some problems with condensation on the inside of that camera probably due to a bad case seal. But the camera had worked fine since. I set that camera because I really didn't need any more eagle pictures, but I wanted to watch that carcass until it was entirely gone. This turned out to be a huge mistake beacuse I ended up getting my first ever cougar day time pictures with that camera. I got about 280 pictures of this cat on Saturday night November 22nd. At 8:30 AM Sunday morning on the 23rd, there was a picture of an eagle and three magpies on the carcass. A few seconds later, the cat is there and you can see it looking up at the departing birds in the second picture. I had bad luck and good luck on those pictures that morning. The bad luck was that it was 22 degrees, and condensation inside the case caused the shutter doors on the camera to freeze partially open. The good luck was that the doors did not freeze all the way closed. I got about 50 day pictures of that cat that morning, but I was only able to salvage five of them. Most of the pictures were partials of the cat beacuse of the shutter doors being frozen partially closed. When the sun warmed up the camera, the doors started working properly, but unfortunatley the cat was gone by then. The cat returned to the carcass five times, and I got over 1,000 pictures of it. This is the first time anyone other than myself has seen the original picture of the cat looking into the camera. He is not near as close as it appears in the cropped picture. That is the advantage of high resolution pictures. Cropping them makes the subject appear much closer, and you lose very little resolution. These pictures would have been much better with one of my other cameras. I am on the process of building three more 12.1 mega pixel trailcams. After the cougar pictures, I retired my older 8.1 mp camera.

Re: Cougar pics
If I read it right, that deer carcass was 17 days old by the time the cougar showed up? Seems to be scavenging to me. Was it cold enough that the carcass was staying fresh?
Great pics, thanks for sharing.

Re: Cougar pics
Cougars and bobcats scavenge all the time. I have many pictures that prove this. A week before this cat found this deer, the deer gagged me when I checked my camera. I have pictures that prove this same spike buck laid in the same location since November 10th. You will have to take my word that the deer laid on the highway for five days. A cougar kill is only fresh in the summer the first time the cat feeds on it. They feed on foul smelling carcasses all the time. These pictures are all over the internet, and I have not posted any of my pictures since this happened. I would never post someone else's pictures.

Thanks for the reply, I think many of us were under the misconception that cats only feed on fresh kills. Of coarse common sense would dictate that a cat wouldn't starve itself to death by leaving an old kill to rot.
Looks like your photo's are famous!

Wow!
a
Welcome to ifish BobR.
FYI your photos of the cougar probably went viral. I recieved a set two days after you posted them . Congratulations on your success.
You are sure to think twice before posting your best of the best on the Internet. The Intenet is not a place where copy rights are easy to enforce. You've just rocket the trailcam world. Way to go.
