Sorry?!
This was the note stuck under my windsheild wiper of my truck when I came back from fishing yesterday. I looked around my truck and trailer and could not see any damage?
So I looked harder and still didn't find any?
I wasn't until I was pulling out of the ramp that I looked in the back of the truck and saw that 2 of my crab rings were gone (out of 6)
I had parked the rig on the road next to the repair shop at Free Willy's. I have been fishing at the coast all my life and my Dad always left his rings in the back with no problems and for the last 12 years that I have been driving I have never had a problem with crab rings being stolen from the back of my rigs.
Well I guess I learned my lesson...
They took one of my Danielson's black traps and a rubber coated slip ring. I searched the crabbing areas yesterday and today and could not find my buoy's.
I over heard someone talking at the fish cleaning station that someone had stolen his from buoy 22 area today, but he was able to recover one of his traps, now with a different buoy on it and someone's initials.
I guess you live and you learn, this was just a learning experience is all...

Re: Sorry?!
Having just been burgled myself, I feel your pain Andy. I'm surprised they didn't just take them all and leave a note saying "Really, really sorry!"
Grrrrr!

Re: Sorry?!
Andy, at least he got the note right. The writer is pretty SORRY alright.
It's a good tip-off though, and if I see anyone leaving a note on someone's windshield I might just wander over and take a look-see. Amazing what a good, personal identification might be worth down the line.
Too bad it had to happen to you. Too bad it had to happen at all.

Re: Sorry?!
Nothing worse than a thief in my opinion. May those crab rings bring him more despair than he cares to handle. He/she will get what coming, they always do.

Re: Sorry?!
On a possitive note....a month or so ago I had a note also. Just a number and some unreadable scribble. Called the number and it was a man who said he had backed into my trailer...light lens was busted and bent the mount. No big deal and I have not sent him a bill...fixed it myself. Just glad that honesty and honor are not totally dead. Sorry you had to deal with the other end of the spectrum.

Re: Sorry?!
What an arse!
With any luck he's got a boat and he'll get the traps caught in his prop and sink!
If I find this guy I'll staple a "sorry" note to his forehead!
What kind of an idiot leaves a sorry note when he steals your stuff? That ticks me off even more than if he just took the stuff!
Hang on to that note for awhile Andy cause eventually he'll get caught and having that note and your testimony could help seal his fate!
Grrrrrrrrrrr, these idiots make me so mad! I lost a bunch of stuff out of my old boat, including 2 full tackleboxes, net, crab traps, knives, etc.. God help the first one I catch in the act!

Re: Sorry?!
Whoa There Rod!!
Take a deep breath - count to ten.
Just remember about the time you take vigialnte justice on someone you become like the thief, a person working outside the law . Nobody wins in that situation and it could escalate into an act or deed you might really regret. Instead, wish a pox on the sorry S.O.B. and move on with your life. Sorry about your losses. Been there. I know how hard it is to put together a tackle box of "good stuff"

Re: Sorry?!
Hey Andy - You know who did this! The guy boldy signed his name right on the note. It's ZORRO!
The lousy S.O.B. will get his, perhaps not by you, but there will be a pay-back.
Thanks for the heads-up to all of us ifishers to be more careful.

Re: Sorry?!
Hey! I was at the cleaning station and overheard a woman telling the same story. Sorry to hear it was you.
We just missed each other; as we were just finishing up. Would have like to chat in person and not just over the VHF.
We ended our day with 5 coho for three guys. Just could not get any nooky.

Re: Sorry?!
I had a reel bag swiped from me up in Alaska where I never would have thought it would have happened. Left it sitting out in the open, within 100 yards of where we were fishing, piled up with all of our other gear as we waited for a float plane to come pick us up. Hadn't seen another sole for 10 days and when we get to bigger water, where planes could land and motor boats could access, there were the theives (one at least). He couln't have stolen a better bag that day... probably $1,500 in reels and fly fishing gear.
S.O.B. was lucky one of the five in our group didn't see it happen or he might have been bear bait. As they say, what comes aroundd goes around. Hope one of those hand-tied flies pays him back some time -- please Mr. Chinook, if he hooks you in the lip spit it out and sling it back so it sticks deep into his eye. I'll bring you with a new fly another time in return, I promise.
Rod, if you find him, be sure to comply with the up-and-coming deer/elk hunting law by leaving his sex organs connected to his hind quarters. But if you're knife slips or you forget this new rule, post another "So Sorry" note to his forehead and move on. Then just leave him there with his two new crab pots and then go call 911 so he can be fingerprinted. Take Skein's advice, don't kill him, you'll probably regret it later.

Re: Sorry?!
I'll replace your crab pots, if you fix my pickup? I had someone back their trailer into my truck last tuesday morning at the Hammond launch. No note, no nothing. That launch sucks. I will need a new fender and door on the passenger side which I really don't have the money for.

Re: Sorry?!
I too have had crab rings stolen from the back of my pick up in hammond in november when everyone has left the buoy 10 show.
It sucks and you feel violated and enraged. Karma will strike the culprit it always does

Re: Sorry?!
Leaving the note probably gave the appearance that the people taking the gear knew the owner of your rig, and or made them feel more comfortable doing it.

Re: Sorry?!
Jerk!
We had one swiped earlier this year. Somebody pulled it out of the middle of our line on Yaquina Bay. What really makes me mad is that I am sure that was the ring with the 12" crab in it!
I hope he tangles the rope around his neck nest time he uses it.

Re: Sorry?!
The bum left a note, hey he can write. I wish the guy who stole my bearing buddies off my boat trailer would have left me a note. Low life pond scum is everywhere these days.

Re: Sorry?!
Unfortunately as we have all come to know there are thieves everywhere.
This weekend as I was loading up my boat at the Nehalem Bay State Park, I noticed a backpack in the bushes. It was covered in broken glass. Obviously a quick window smash hit snatch and run.
Keep in mind not to leave any valuables in your car while fishing.

Re: Sorry?!
It sounds as if this has happened before in the area, so the thief probably isn't someone who's going to be using those traps, just some local doper too "diabled" to work. If you check the garage sales and pawn shops on both sides of the river next weekend you'd be likely to turn them up, but I don't know I'd give up a fishing day for that. Informing the law enforcement agency with jurisdiction and requesting extra patrol in the area could help to discourage future thefts. Lots of cops like to fish, and they all like to catch thieves.

Re: Sorry?!
Funny thing about thieves and crab pots......
Sometimes thieves wind up in crab pots. Hummmmm.... Now there's a win-win situation
That's almost better than the "fed 'em to the pigs" scenario.
Food for thought and your tummy.
Hey crabs gotta eat too. You could call it nutrient enhancement.
It disgusts me to hear about this sort of thing.

Re: Sorry?!
Last year I caught a couple of Orientel Gentleman pulling one of my traps at Walport. I have a ten foot Log pole with a pointed end and a hook. I asked them what they were doing and they said they
lost a trap and where checking to see if it was their's. I aked them Can't you read. ( Only not so nicely if you know what I mean) I have mine stenciled in Three inch letters with my address and phone number as required by the Canadians. I shoved the pole in their face and warned them to get out of dodge or else.
When I go crabbing I go crabbing, when I go fishing I go fishing. You can't trust people anymore.
A couple of shots with a 30.06 from some hidden spot on the bank might get the word around.
It scarey these days when you realize how bold some people are. No fear and no Scrupples.
I have heard a lot of stories about the Hammond area. They take you crabs, your traps and you bait, switch them to another boat and run to Washington and the cops can't or won't catch them.
And they want to raise taxes.
