A Overnight Pacific ADVENTURE!
Here is a thread to discuss plans and preperations for an overnight adventure on the Pacific Ocean. Maybe this Summer, maybe next.
In any case lets compile plans and preperations to make this dream a reality.
I'm thinking that in addition to calculating range (mileage) and drift we need to have extra safety items on board like a waterproof light for every life jacket. Lifejackets worn at all times at night. At least one person on watch at all times with regular breaks (relief watch), Extra cockpit lighting, plenty of water and food, a float plan on filed for each and every boat participating. Oh yea, tackle... Light sticks, squid jigs, bait, lots and lots of line on monster reels....
How far out should we venture? We need to make sure we have 1/3 of our total fuel in reserve when we get to port.
What else?

Re: A Overnight Pacific ADVENTURE!
Sounds like fun. I have a buddy that does this occasionally and he has a portable strobe light he attaches to some high point on his boat (runs continuously at night), a sea anchor to slow the drift and a radar reflector to look REALLY BIG to any passing ships.

Re: A Overnight Pacific ADVENTURE!
Make sure and hang a "Black Light" from your mast. To further enhance the effect, play Ina-gadda-davida by Iron Butterfly in the background!
You guys have a nice "trip".

Re: A Overnight Pacific ADVENTURE!
I could probably be talked into joining something like this with enough advance notice, depending on timing and range.

Re: A Overnight Pacific ADVENTURE!
Sounds like we could have our own little "Waterworld" out there if we all rafted up!
As far as sleeping goes, I'm not sure that'll happen. It would more likely turn out to just be an all-night fishing trip! It would be cool though to see a bunch of boats floating around in the dark!
Let's do it!

Re: A Overnight Pacific ADVENTURE!
Lets see...20' boat...120 miles out...60 gallons of fuel and three coolers of ice...lots of gear...and, oh yea, my traqualizers (SP)! I don't see any reason not to join this armada. I even have a sleeping bag or two!

Re: A Overnight Pacific ADVENTURE!
I've been thinking about this for a couple of years and can't wait. I'm afraid that most of my friends know me too well and are smart enough not sleep on my boat with me though.
