Legal to give cape to taxi for discount on mount?

I am having a mount done of last years buck and I got one yesterday. The taxi said if the cape is in good shape they will give me a small discount on my mount they are working on. Is this legal?

Why wouldn't it be? You can trade a hide for gloves, why not a cape for a mount? I have done this in the past.

If you go to page 35 of the '08 regs, center column under DISGUISING SEX, WASTE, SALE and go to the third bullet-point, it will direct you to OAR 635, Division 200 - - - If I recall correctly, one of the exceptions there allows such deals with taxidermists. But, do check it out to be certain. I have other projects to get onto right now. Don

There's no problem doing that Riley. I killed a big buck in 1996 and gave the cape to my brother so he could have a 172" Blacktail mounted that was killed in 1919 and has been in our family.

Many hides and capes just get tossed anyway.

Whadja get?? That's awesome! You must of killed a buck with your bow?? I'll go looking for the pics right now- congrats!!!! I just got back from scouting yesterday and there hasn't been much movement- pretty dead, really, so NICE JOB!

Hold your horses Dave, be patient, ha ha ha. I went out Friday and shot a buck but was forced to take up the trail Saturday morning. I have a story and am waiting for my hunting partner to review the story before I post it all. He's a good one.

I've done this (gee, I never considered "whether it was legal"? I left that up to the Taxidermist to say "yay or nay", figured he'd know best

One Antelope I shot was "O.k.", but nothing exceptional.

I was careful and did a good job of tubing the Cape, which was superb looking.

I figured that a nice cape was worth something as I've heard taxidermists complain that so many of them get "butchered" by lots of hunters.

Basically I traded my Cape for a Horn "mount", figured someone who'd shot a dandy, who might not have done as good of a job on skinning as they did on shooting might appreciate that (with the extra $$$ going to the Taxidermist).

It was a "win-win" situation IMHO.
