Default What I did when the weather god frowned

Thursday is a regular fishing day for me. I had planned to take a couple of friends out for tuna but the weather gods had different agendas. Instead I went up to Warrington with my regular partner to look at the bouy ten fishery that everyone talks so much about.
Left Albany at 0630...a late start as this was exploritory. Got to Warrington at around 1000. Went to the Tackle Time store and had a long conversation with the people there...very nice and very helpful. Got some gear and bait and directions and maps and food and...and...and went out to meet the mighty Columbia. Neither of us had been to this area before. Found a ton of boats out and saw fish getting landed regularly as we got out gear in the water.
The wind was nice after the very hot, stagnant air at the launch. Soon that turned to brisk and the seas grew. We fished as far out as the 25 can only and as far in as the chip pile. We caught two nice hatchery silvers in short order and then nothing. We fished through the tide change at 2:00 and the water just got snotty. It was easy to troll east but hard to slow down. Going west it was hard to hold a course (for us newbie river riders anyway.)
Packed and headed home soon after the change. Talked to others who said early before the wind comes up is better. The tides and time of day seem to determine fishability.
We didn't get out anywhere near the bouy10 area and didn't get around the sand to the Washington side. Lots to learn and explore. Hope to do it some more. Thanks to Tackle Time for the hand and a good experience. As Arnold would say...I be back.

Glad you had fun WP. You fished the area I run too for Silvers when it's rough outside or at Bouy 10.
Another good area (in the right conditions) is on the North side from around the church up to the 101 Bridge. Good for Silvers and Chinook.
You can also do well trolling around the mouth of Illwaco as well.
The folks at Tackle Time are a good bunch. Way to get the reconnaisance!

WP......I am always curious when folks fish the B-10 area for the first time. After you fish a lot on the open ocean, like you have been doing and have only the sea gulls or sharks to talk to........and then time warp to the combat fishing at B-10 on a weekend. It is an experience to say the least. I will tell a B-10 story one of these days or you may experience one for yourself shortly.

Good fishin to ya.............maybe tuna next week???

TWB.........I thought you were out halibuting??? I thought real serious about going tomorrow (Sat.), but the weather on the outside bouy's jumped from 4.6 to 9.8 feet in 10 hours and its coming this way for Sat. I know the Assassin is going and so is Tackle Buster and another charter, so you have company. With all the other stuff I got going this time of year, I really don't want a $100.00 boat ride and have my kidneys bruised some more..........so I will wait for better options. Mark Mc. went to the chicken ranch for halibut with intentions to head toward Nelson Island area for tuna. He gave his numbers to another boat. The boat radioed back that he was half-way and was into jumpers in 56 degree water. After that they were out of VHF range so Mark didn't know what happened. No doubt the fish are there.........but it boils down to someone having bananas on their boat too long and has ****ed the wind Gods off. So get rid of the bananas who ever you are !!! and all will be well. At least thats what my almanac says.

Marty, I am going tomorrow, Saturday. Saw Mark's report on another thread. It sounds good and the forcast is about the same tomorrow. If it's flat I am going straight to the ranch and, hopefuly a quick limit, then take up the tuna hunt in that same direction. If the weather holds, possibly Depoe Bay on Sunday for tuna.

If it's not so good, then it's off to the pile for salmon. Coming home tomorrow night , will try to get a report on.
