Ocean Crabbing Closed?

Did I miss it, is it really closed?

Yep, closes Aug 15th each year. Ocean crabbing isn't that great this time of year generally anyway. Will reopen in December.

Hi Pilar,

You'll just have to put you traps in the bays now. There may be a few hundred others to compete with. Crabs will be getting harder shells now with more meat.

I'll be putting out 4 traps in the Columbia before salmon fishing tomorrow and Sat.

Not only is it closed. But any pots left out on the ocean after 2 weeks...are FREE GAME.I'll be out diving on sanded pots. I need some new ones.

Capt Kujo,

Are you sure about the "free pots"?

I know that doesn't hold true for commercial pots but don't know about sport pots.

DAn - If they're not off the ocean they become salvage. And owners much "purchase" them for the 'salvage' fee for recovery/

<font size="2" face="verdana,arial,helv">I don't know about the Depoe area but everywhere else is hot right now. Out of Garibaldi you can expect 24+ crabs for 3 pots easy on an 8 hour soak.

I wish the season would stay open thru September and then they could close it till June! In fact if the season was only July and August that would be plenty!
