Moms Thanksgiving Day ELK!!!!!!
After 5 days of hard hunting and no Elk, fortune finally smiled upon us on this Thanksgiving Day. My Mom is 64 years young and has troubles walking and has other medical problems that limits her on how she gets to hunt so she obtained a disabled permit to allow her to keep doing the one thing she loves. Needless to say this was very hard for her to do and these days are hard for her as she used to run up and down the canyons hunting Elk and Deer.
We started out our day checking out couple of favorite spots and then we went to a clearcut that I had seen a herd of elk in during deer season. As I drove out of the timber and took my first look down into the clear cut I spotted two elk standing down in the bottom of the unit. After getting out of the truck and getting my mom settled down to use a stump for a rest I could clearly see that the one standing broad side to us was a branch bull so I told her to take him. She settled in and took the shot and as I looked on thru the binoculars I saw the bull hunch over and stagger and I knew she had hit him. She shot two more times but missed as it was running down away from us and out of sight. I helped up my mom and got her back into truck to wait and then I took off after her elk. After getting down to where we had last seen the bull I saw it standin next to the timber with its head hanging low. I finished him off for my mom only to later find her first shot was a mortal one and had taken him in the liver.
I am very proud of my mom and her determination to keep hunting each year. This year has been her best year hunting for several years as she not only got a 3X4 Branch Bull Elk but during deer season she shot herself a nice big doe with one shot to the head.

She was very happy but unfortunately by the time we got it out and took the pics she was in quiet a bit of pain as she has problems with her hips and back.

Glad to read about your Mom's elk & deer.
A lot of support comes from moms that hunt.
Congratulations to your mom on her hunt.

great job, my friends dad got a cow (disabled permit) and he got the spike next to it. He couldnt get his dad to quit laughing because he had to pack everything out. Friends are great! Of course he got help, eventually.
