Default Rattling antlers

Would these work if I were to split them?

I cannot afford to have them mounted properly, so I was thinking about using them.

To me they look a little heavy. I like to use a run of the mill 3 point or small 4 point rack.

Nice bones by the way.

This is the set I have been using. They work great. Great volume. A good friend gave them to me a few years ago.

its a small 6x6 basket buck. It scored 97 6/8 p&y. They were my sons, but now that he's gone they are just collecting dust.
Dont more tines make more sound? The ones I am using right now smack my hands alot. They have even drawn blood.

Try holding them higher up on the main beam to stop from cracking knuckles.

Should I remove the one eye guard from the set I am currently using? I think that is what is getting me. I have a 3 pt and a 4 pt. using them sometimes seems a bit hard.

Thanks for the tip, I will give it a try tomorrow morning. Going to wear gloves though.

sliverslinger, ofcourse they will work, but they aren't ideal. I don't think the two antlers would web well together. If I were using those, I would not clank them point to point, I would instead cradle one into the other, like "spooning" he he and then clank them together that way. Plus they're too cool to thrash like that!
Big and heavy is great and no problem at all though! We need Sliverpicker to chime in- he would know!
I can tell you that I would use those before going out without anything- they WILL work!

There is a rattling guru on this web site and if memory serves me right the antlers used for rattling fall under the bigger the better category.

Oh and someday you might be able to afford to have your sons antlers made into a mount. So it might be better to keep them in good shape.

This is a pair that ive been using for about 5 years, there pretty chipped up and I lost one eye gaurd last year while rattling. Never could find it. The one thing to consider is I think there is a fine line between to small for sound production and too big for transporting them around. I do alot of walking from stand to stand and this med rack is a pain in the butt to carry with everything else.
