if you arent you will be when you read this! well im not going to make this long winded but i have to tell you guys. you know how you always hear the stories of a buddy blowing a chip 20 yard shot? well this afternoon i missed a dandy 3pt at less than 20ft!!!!!!!!!!! he chased a doe and a fawn right passed me and was so far up the does rear he didnt even flinch at the shot which i swear cut hairs on his back. i didnt use my pins just thought he was so close i could instinct shoot him.

Re: are you laughing at me?
I think we have all been there done that, just be glad it was only a three point. Believe me if you miss a monster at that distance you will never forget it. Better yet if you have witnesses they will help remind you every chance you get....

Re: are you laughing at me?
Don't stress it, it's "that moment" that makes hunting so much fun!! I'd much rather miss a 20 foot shot than a 500 yard shot, at 20 feet the emotions are involved....

Don't feel bad, they're making a movie about my first days as a bowhunter. It's called "Empty Quiver."

Re: are you laughing at me?
I went on a hunt with a buddy from work about 3 years ago. This was a rifle hunt for blacktail up on the Olympic Peninsula in WA. On that hunt, he missed a spike at 15 yards with a scoped 243. He then missed 3 grouse with a 20 GA shotgun, all within 15 yards. To add insult to injury, another buddy used that same 243 to kill a nice revert buck at about 150 yards. I could have sworn the owner of the rifle almost teared up in frustration. He's a good shot on paper though!

Re: are you laughing at me?
i missed a 3 point sunday at 50 yards and wish i had that shot back. i agree 20 yards seems like a gimme when you are at the range shooting but range to real life hunting situation doesnt compare. Dont sweat it.

Re: are you laughing at me?
I shot all my arrows at a grouse one time and had a perfect circle around him with the shafts going through his feathers. He stood there till I was out of arrown and then just walked off.
On a more serious note.....Most folks think I'm an idiot for suggesting they learn to shoot instinctively. I may be an idiot but not for this reason.....

Re: are you laughing at me?
dogzilla i know what you mean by learning to shoot instinctivly but its totally different with a compound not looking down the arrow as if it were a recurve but then i guess it is why you said to practice??? btw i am still kicking myself and havent quite forgiven myself yet

Re: are you laughing at me?
Sammy are you home, you swabby? I'm gonna tell Will that after you gave him grief on missing that toad w/ his pistol!
If you are home and don't call your Ol' teacher & hunting buddy, your life is worthless as what came out of that deer when you scared it

Re: are you laughing at me?
I had a tasty forky horn come out from around a tree once......I drew back.....TWANG....THWACK! I stuck the arrow into a tree next to his head at like 20 feet away. His eyes got huge.....and he leaned over and smelled the arrow over its entire length. I was too dumbfounded and embarrassed and just stood there.....his eyes got even bigger when he sniffed the fletchings, looked at me and ran away. I gave up for the day......
