wild rajneesh boars
was wondering if anyone has ever hunted for boars in central oregon up by the town of antelope, ashwod (the old rajneesh camp). have been in the area before but never seen any boars. some friends of mine used to own property up there and I have heard stories of them killing boars, but have not seen any solid evidence. I was thinking about taking a trip up there to find them. any ideas?

Re: wild rajneesh boars
I used to hunt the Bowerman Ranch yearly across the river from the Bagwan and I never saw signs of pork? But who knows?

Re: wild rajneesh boars
The rajneesh camp ain't anywhere near Ashwood. It's at the old Muddy Ranch, now called Young Life. The game farm was probably Clark Couch's place. Go toward Prineville out of Ashwood. They have flown the area and killed off most of them. what's left is on private property you likely can't get on. Used to be some over by Horse Heaven but haven't heard much about them lately, probably got them flying. Also the last ones I heard of you might be able to get to were over around the Grizzly area. Private but understand some of the people will let you hunt. I suspect that they will make a comeback.

Re: wild rajneesh boars
I have a friend who has hunted them over there as well. He has killed a few and they were all on private property that is no longer accessible.

Re: wild rajneesh boars
I have tried to find them out of Antelope on private land to no avail. There was lots of sign but just couldnt find them. I hear some may have been killed this year during elk season on Wilderness Unlimited propery, but i have no confirmed info.

The 'old camp' is a Young Life camp now, formerly the "Big Muddy". The game farm mentioned earlier is Clark Couch's place out south of Ashwood. There are pigs spread all over that country now. Mostly small family type groups that move a lot! I grew up hunting and working on a 54,000 acre place S/SW of the area you mention (could see it in the distance), there are pigs there, but hard to find on a regular basis.
There are several ranchers in that 'Ashwood' area that would probably allow pig hunting, especially if you offered to NOT drive on their property, but do more hike/glass stuff. Those clay roads go to pot quick with any moisture, and landowners REALLY dislike people trashing them. More of a turn off than leaving garbage.
If you find one that says yes, be sure to send them a 'Thank You' card, maybe offer to help feed, fix fence, etc for a day. They DO remember that.

Re: wild rajneesh boars
I spent some time with maps and the biologists about 5 years back. Check with them. The hot zone was then in the tops of the drainages between trout creek on the Deschutes, and the John Day creeks trout creek backed up against. They hang aroung in the wet spots (springs and seeps). The only people interested in protecting them at that time were the pay to play game farm folks. They are pure h**l on the springs which is of course very bad for quail, chukar, steelhead etc.....
Get on the phone with the forest service, blm, and ODFW bios they will tell you what they know, might be a lot, might be a little if they are new..

Really? Here is a picture from the center of town in Ashwoood (right by the river). The sign says, "22 Antelope ". I assume this is miles, judging by the road in from Prineville to Ashwood, that 22 miles probably takes near an hour, but 22 miles doesn't seem too far to me.

Re: wild rajneesh boars
I have seen them a couple of times between Service Creek and Spray. They were on the other side of the river, but I'm sure they must be on the highway side also, which has some chuncks of BLM.
