Default depoe bay saturday

Left dock a 5.30 am went to the second buoy the bell and no action picked up the lines ran out and I honestly could not keep the hooks baited fast enough. Limited three people in about an hour 4 natives to one hatchery fish.

I went searching up north for bottom fish and had no luck.

Im hoping some very kind individual will give me some accurate numbers for bottom fish.

wheres the pile???
wheres the chicken ranch?
are there places north near the coast line??
are there places south??
where are the kelp beds??

I will find these things eventually on my own it would just be nice to have a little help.

The rockpile is about 17 miles due west of Newport. On the chart you'll see Stonewall banks and some shallower water. I've never run it from Depoe so can't tell you exactly how far it is from there. I have run to the chicken ranch out of Depoe to Halibut fish but I was on a charter and didn't get the bearing but it felt like we ran a little southwest and about 35 miles out. I'm sure some other salty dogs will give you exact coordinates, but hopefully this will give you a general idea. Can't help you on the rockfish as I haven't fished for them in years.

The Rockpile GPS coordinates are

N 44.32.335
W 124.22.612
Look for the boats when you get there.

The north end of the Chicken Ranch is

N 44.27.812
W 124.45.205
It runs for around three minutes south to N 44.24.500 or so.

Don't know where the kelp beds are. There is several places for bottom fish north that I know of but no GPS coordinates. Look for structure. Good luck. And pray for a flat ocean.

Choo Choo,

If you or anyone can post a chart or email it to me I will see if I can find time to mark some excellent bottom fish areas on it.

I couldn't find any digital charts on the net that were of no charge. Found some maps on us and mapquest and maps on us that I can use if nothing else. Also started playing around with Terra Server and got some excelent satellite photos of some of our favorite rockfish areas and restaurants! Pretty mind blowing!

You don't need to go to the pile and it is a waste of time out of Depoe because of the yelloweye and canary limit of just one fish each.

You can catch all the rock fish you want from a stone throws from the Depoe Bay area (when conditions are right).

Most local places you don't need numbers with the exception of Government Point (where it can be helpful) and down south off of Morroco and Gull Rock. You do need someone with experience first to fish around Morroco and Gull Rock because of the wash rocks down there.

If someone post or emails a chart all we need is the Lincoln Beach area down south to Otter Rock or Beverly Beach area.

If I get my hands on a chart I will show the areas to fish and post some pic's of the different types of terminal gear (tackle).

Dan

Hey thanks Nancy!

I will try to find time real soon to punch in locations in those areas and post some pic's of the many types of terminal tackle that is proven effective by both the charters, commercials and the private sport boats.

I have only tried microsoft paint once and I'll see if I can remember how to use it. It did work for modifying Wild Hawg's jacket on that tuna trip.
