Default Hate It!!!!

Man it drives me crazy when NOAA is wrong and I miss-out on flat ocean conditions!!!!! Friday was suppose to be blowing, so was Saturday and now its Sunday and its still flat with no wind and the salmon are still on their suicide missions. The tuna temps are up to 68 degrees and I can feel the need to be in the hunt. I think I need a beer.......no make that 2 or 3.

Anyone else feel like this!!!!!!!

Of course I do. Only thing is that I probably woulda been out there on the tuna grounds if that prop wasn't a problem.

I'm right there with you Marty. On Thursday, I made the call that I would stay home and work on the house, so that when the seas flatten, I can head west. The wife was so happy. Each day since, my buddy has called me from his cell to let me know they have yet another nice nook on, and the seas are flat...

If next week turns out bad, I'm just gonna lose it!

I went through this a few years ago. Unfortuantely the only answer is you have got to go take a look. Some one correct me if I'm wrong, but at least 80% of the time you will be able to fish, otherwise have a nice breakfast and go back home.

Ask any of the old salts, you really have to go take a look. Sorry about lost time, fish and part of your summer.

Not to rub it in (honestly) but yesterday was one of the days we dream about all winter. Good luck and tight lines.

I personally watch the buoy reports and then make the call. If you watched on Friday, the wind was light at @3:00 pm, and when I checked it again at 3 am, it was light and the swell was small so I went... we were rewarded with a beautiful ocean and great fishing...

Always watch the buoy reports as they are a true indicator of the current conditions. NOAA does have its place but keep in mind that those are the worst conditions you can expect within 60 miles of the shore. Quite a long way to have to forecast, the conditions should usually be better with 5 miles than NOAA forecast....

Marty...
We need to GO! It is time for another killin' session for both of us. Looks like the weather sorta is sucky but there is always hope. I am thinking that Thursday might work this week...with luck. I always wonder why the weather gods rig it so the good days are when I work? Hope to join you on the blue water again soon...you are a great running mate!

WP.......Would love to run Thursday, but I really think my whining ****ed the wind Gods off and now we all will pay the price!!!! One thing for sure is.........next time its flat I'm going and will be trolling some big gear, as the water is so warm there has to be something large and exotic swimming around out there with our names on it. Marlin lure or 10" cedar, or a big yozuri plug with a rod and reel that has some capacity to play the game with a chance to win. I will be in touch.

Marty, Marty, Marty, my old friend. I feel your pain. As I drove through Depoe Bay Saturday morning with only one remaining of my cancleled crew, I was heart sick looking to sea, where were the winds and swells? I could see tuna dancing on the horizon. Oh well, at least there was a day of Salmon fishing. Possibly Sunday, thats it, we will go tuna fishing Sunday, they missed the forcast Saturday, they will miss it on Sunday.

Ok, so they were right Sunday, 25 knot winds! But, there is still....yes Salmon. Will I ever get back to fish some tuna?

But, here is my question to you? When I called you the other day, your wife said that you were not going fishing this weekend, something about a family reunion. Now, are you sure you are not taking your frustrations out on the poor weather man? Oh, alright go have a beer!

Yea Marty fishing Friday night with Nancy I kept commenting about how unreal the ocean was this time of year and with the previous forecast.

Yesterday late afternoon fishing with Loren on the Affair it was so hot it was almost uncomfortable. I won't mention all the chinooks that were in the area and all the commercials right out front trolling a north/south tack in 35 fathoms.

But the wind caught up with NOAA this afternoon and made a couple of tuna fishers think twice about what they were doing out there!

One of these days you'll be retired and won't miss those unusual days.

See ya around.

I guess the good news is, I got a lot done around the house. Changed the oil in my boat motor, made up a few more handlines (can a guy have too many?) Got some much needed sleep too!

The long term forecasts look like things might be calming down towards the end of next week. Could be another opportunity to double on Hali and TUNA, and maybe, just maybe, the grand slam! (See what you've done to me Charlie?)

We took everyone's advice to go have a look, so we drove over to Newport Friday night and got a slip. Guys coming in said it was really laying down, and since there was NO breeze, we figured it would be nice. That wasn't the half.

We had a great day with the water so calm you could see the sharks finning around the boat. Pretty close to a perfect day.

We heard Sunday was supposed to be kinda sloppy, but hit it first thing and fished out by the lighthouse. Headed in early afternoon just when it was starting to chop up.

It is sooooo nice to have our own boat. We don't have to beg a ride, then get up at 2:30 to get to Newport, etc, etc, etc. We can drive over, get a slip, sleep on the boat and be ready to go if the conditions look right. We waited a long time for that, and trust me, we're enjoying it!!!

So sorry, Marty! It's all our fault. We took the kids camping on Mt. Hood instead of trying a trip to the coast for fishing again. If we'd tried the fishing, you could have been guaranteed the forecast would have been accurate.

Sorry :depressed:

Jim, I am so happy for you and the Halibut Queen. I know just how you feel except for that new boat smell. Mine just smells like fish now, but I ain't complaining  .
I sure look forward to seeing you out there and hope you can give me a ride sometime.

By the way, you may need a bigger fish box I've seen your wife fish....

Thanks, Ray. You're right, that girl is a fishing machine herself. But she's not just a fisherman.

She piloted the boat back in over the bar on Sunday afternoon as well, and, buddy, that wasn't a cake-walk either. She was a little (pretty darn) nervous but did just fine. That damn dredge parked in the channel right in the jaws adds a degree of difficulty I think we could all do without. Glad it was before the fog moved in.

She's a fine skipperette.
