Default TUNA SUNDAY 8/17

I know that it's late, just got home from Salmon at Newport. Had brake problems on the boat trailer. Left it at Depoe Bay. Going down in the morning and if the weather holds we are going to fish tuna. Any one else going tomorrow? Probably won't be there until about 6AM. Saw Mark Mc's report from Newport, would switch to there if I had some good numbers.

Hope to see some of you there.
Jerry

I'm not at this point planning on fishing tuna in the morning, have to take neighbor guys out for a salmon trip I'd promised them.

But in looking at the latest SST from this evening, I'd say go out to about the 124 20 area straight out from Depoe Bay should put you in 64-65 degree water. I suspect this is an area the blitz and other Depoe Bay boats were fishing today in looking at the SST, though the 44 39, 124 37 area also looks fairly promising if running from Newport.

Good luck and please give a report when ya get in.

Nancy and others, took off this morning with the knowledge that it was going to blow sometime today. All was good to about 15 miles where the white caps started. Pushed on to 20 miles and at that point decided to abort the trip. Could have gone out, but we new that it was not going to be a fun day. It was just to much for my size boat.

Fished off the lighthouse at Newport for Salmon like the day before. Downrigged for a limit of Chinook. Caught and released many, many coho to get the kings.

We new that the South to North turn around was going to be Saturday and should have gone that day. My friends canceled late, so there was just two of us Saturday, didn't want to go with just two of us.

Glad we didn't go, the wind, as advertised, really came up this afternoon and a big fog rolled onto the coast. Looks like more of the same this week. Don't know about halibut?

Thanks Jerry...
I was thinking of going today (Monday) or Tuesday and try for albacore on Thursday with luck. Sounds like those plans will have to change! Even Friday halbicore sounds like it is at risk :depressed: Oh well, next week will work if the report holds true :depressed: :depressed:
Thanks again for the report!

Just talked to two guys a little while ago that went out today for tuna in their dory. It was a large glass dory and they ended up out 45 miles.

They ended up with only 9 longfins (all great grade) but didn't sound like they enjoyed the ride back in much. Not much at all. Sounds like they got their hineys kicked.

I believe they said they fished anywhere from 30-35 miles out to 45. Scratch fishing. Never a double.

The wind is kicking pretty good right now compared to last night/this morning when you had a nice ocean to start out with and I would think planning on a salmon trip would be a better bet. And that might be rock & roll.

Salmon fishing out of Depoe this morning was smoking hot.

Good luck and be safe!
