Here's the word from the ODFW -

"Sufficient poundage remains after the August 1, 2, 8 and 9 fishery for Pacific halibut in all-depth waters between Cape Falcon and Humbug Mountain to reopen on August 22. The Summer fishery is structured to be open on Fridays and Saturdays. Thus, the fishery will be open on August 22 and 23 and will continue on Fridays and Saturdays until the earlier of October 31 or quota attainment."

Is the catch down this year, or is the quota up? Anybody know the details?

From what all I've seen and heard, the catch has been down this year. Have seen several of the May days that just didn't hardly produce nearly as well as years past.

<font size="2" face="verdana, arial, helv">Most excellent. Weekends when halibut are open and weather conditions bring Mr. Albie near shore present the best of dilemnas. Always welcome in my book.

Anyone have a link to an official ODFW announcement, data on remaining poundage in quota. Finding out the details of whether and when the season will be extended isn't always that easy on their website.

Quotas for both years are nearly identical from the numbers I can find. I think the "Ranch" has been more spotty this year with less instant or quick limits, and the fish seem to be smaller overall. Also, some folks (myself at the top of the list) are getting tired of getting beat up so bad to get there and back for one halibut. If I go to the pile, I may get a halibut, or I may not, but I also may get a couple nice ling, and a couple large Chinook. Works for me if the ocean is decently rough.

Central Coast:

2002 Spring Quote - 156,835 (43,254 uncaught)
2002 Summer Quota - about 56,000

2003 Spring Quota - 156,835 (68,450 uncaught)
2003 Summer Quota - about 56,000

From - http://hmsc.oregonstate.edu/odfw/fin...catch2002.html and http://hmsc.oregonstate.edu/odfw/fin...catch2003.html
