Question Looking for Wyoming Elk Information

Getting ready to put in for the non-resident tags in Wyoming and wondering if anyone would share some information with me. I'm looking for a second choice possible draw for Any elk or just cows to learn some more areas with a good chance of being successful. My first choice is a near impossible draw. PM me or reply to board. Thanks

Don't know if you can get a gen tag w/ 2nd choice anymore. Maybe a type 6 reduced price Cow tag?

I'm just now going thru Eastmans' MRS for WY.

Chinook Nut, last year there were a number of antlerless tags available in the second chance draw. As I recall, the only bull tags left for that draw were in mostly private land units, or in Wilderness areas where you have to hire a guide.

I am not sure if the 2nd chance draw info is still up on the Wyoming Fish and Wildlife site, but you might take a look and see.

The problem with 2nd choice is there is a lot of movement between units going on, particularly by the guys with maximum points. There are some big swings between units from year to year, so a unit that had tags left over after the 1st choice applicants were awarded in 2008 might be over subscribed in 2009.

Chinook Nut, my son moved over to WY this past year. He did all of his hunting as Non-Res. He bought a cow tag over the counter but, I believe they did sell them out fairly quick. You didn't mention the area(I'm guessing it's intentional?), so I can't ask him about cow tags in your area. If you PM me the unit you're looking at , I'll ask him next time I talk to him. Can't gaurantee he'll know but it's worth a try.
Oh, and he did harvest his cow.
Seems to me the "reduced" Non-Res. cow tag cost around $280, about half the bull tag price.

Doesn't Wy have a guide requirement for nonres elk for some of their units?

Yes, nonresidents cannot hunt the wilderness areas without a guide, I guess they think we will get lost. I have Huntin Fool and Eastmans both and do use there information. Was just wondering if anyone has used the second choice to get a cow tag and done well? Thanks for your time!
