Default 6 and 3 at 10 seconds, is it worth it?

Thats the predicted conditions at Newport for tomorrow. Is it worth taking a beating for the last dance at the Salmonoids? To avoid the wind wave factor, it looks like a bar crossing at first light and to be back at port by 11:00 or better. Anyone else going to run?

Yes. Well in my boat it is. That's a long time between swells.

Favor to ask. Would someone mind giving me a call on my cell tomorrow morning to tell me the conditions out of Newport?

If doable, a friend of mine will head over with his boat and I'll meet him there. If nasty, he'll stay put.

Email me or post here if willing to make the call. My cell is 503-881-2695 and I'll have it on from 5:00 am on.

To the good samaritan, I'll owe you a cold one tomorrow afternoon.

TackleBuster,

Where did you get those numbers? All I've been seeing is 6 sec, which equates to a pretty steep wave.

I sure like your report better than mine.

Good chance that Sea Jypzee will be out doing a little salmon trolling from Depoe Bay tomorrow morning, and possibly sunday morning as well.

Heading out now to try for a quick couple of evening salmon for today.
Will post a report in a few hours.

Well got the boat up and running again

So, I will there with the perverbiale bells on. I have not gotten a VHF as yet, so does anyone run a CB? If so please let me know what channel you are on.

TB hope to see you out there in the morning. I don't think you are running a CB so give me a call on my cell 760-0189. Heck for that matter anyone can give me a call. I know that many you are over there every weekend but I have yet to met anyone :depressed: :depressed:

So give me a call or post a CB channel. Birthday is coming up and VHF is on the top of the list

Good luck, good fishin, be careful out there. My pal lost his boat two weeks ago. It don't take much to cause a disaster

fish on!!!!!

Well, as I was getting on the boat this evening, met up with DepoeBayDan and he asked to join me, so out we went. Was kind of a slow bite really, nothing big on action....a few drive-by hits, occasional fish on, a couple of natives, etc.

We got out to about 40 fathoms, and my rod fired up big time. Was using a hoochie, with a flasher and small diver....rod went off, zzzzzzzzzzzzzz, so I climbed down off the flying bridge and grabbed the rod...the fish broke the surface for just a sec, then line began screaming off the reel faster than I could slow it down. Took nearly 200 yards of 80lb power-pro out before it decided to stop running. Then it just sat there for the most part. As I was reeling it up, I was thinking it was either a Chinook or a tuna the way it was fighting. (Water temp was about 60 degrees).

Well, here is what it turned out to be....

Weight was 25lbs...but looked much larger. Was very long for 25lbs.

We eventually limited out on Coho, so came on in. Was an absolutly perfect evening on the ocean...calm seas, light breeze, and a beautiful sunset from the ocean.

I'll be out there! FIRST TRIP (other than a charter) WITH FRIENDS, NOT GUIDES! We'll be heading out of Newport at o'dark thirty tomorrow. Not as experienced, but will keep the radio on ch. 78.

Hope to chat with some of you and maybe between all of us, we can round up some good catches!

Can't sleep, but must! 4 am is early!

Spazz- You running your own boat? Didn't think so. It's a little different scenerio going out on a charter with an experienced skipper that does it for a living in a 6 and 3 prediction rather than taking your own boat which is much smaller out and being the skipper yourself. After reviewing my question in full I can't find a remark in my post. Good luck this weekend and post your results.

If today was 6 and 3 and 10, then I think just about any boat could make it! What a flat ocean it was today. Just beautiful and easy motoring.

Headed out in a friends boat NW of the light house, and hooked about 20 fish total, before we got our 4 keepers.

Today I figured out how you can tell the natives from the hatchery fish. If it is big as all get out, fights like crazy, and makes you envious with it's size, then you know it's a Native that you can't keep. We hooked some real pigs today, but every single one was a Native.

We also had a lot of Shark problems today. We had two fish get munched by Sharks while getting them to the boat. One of the sharks, I had to push away with the net, so we could net our fish.

Now it's time to go and sleep off that Dramamine that I didn't need...
